Other games have done it and been successful. I mean buying stuff on Furc is barely beneficial to the player. It's just a new character graphic with or buying "wings" for like 25 dollars a year, that don't do anything but look pretty. You'd be surprised by how many people are walking around in that game with wings and special characters they paid tons for.
