People creating playerworlds

Please, please, put some quality into them! Even if it takes a long long time. Don't settle for anything less than you know you can achieve. If something doesn't look good, ask help from people and see what's wrong. If you aren't 100% sure you cannot create a good, nice, interactive playerworld. DO NOT DO IT.

The only playerworld out there that seems to be on the right track is Oasis. No, no, I'm not sucking up, I'm telling the truth. Konidias is a very creative person, and he just has the talent and skills to make good quality things. He isn't the greatest scripter, or the greatest graphic maker, but he tries hard at what he does. If you guys just try harder and get help when you absolutely need it, you too can have a great playerworld in the making. Do not settle for less than your possible best.

Not to be rude but I've basically said the same things. No one seems to hear what I'm saying though. Perhaps people will listen to you better than me?

I'm serious though. I think many have the idea of getting a playerworld up so they can have power and be the "owner."

This point needs to get across to these people. I'm sick of seeing all of these crappy, low quality playerworlds.

Edit: Sorry G_Yoshi, I did not see your thread before, or I did and I just forgot.

Low quality playerworlds will be a thing of the past very soon.

Let's just say, there's going to be quite a few pw's missing from the list.

*joy*

Like I've said before.
There are tons of upcomming playerworlds but very few, if any, will actually be any good as most of the talanted people are working on other player worlds and the ones that arn't usually don't want to work anywhere.
The good talent is being spread to thinly and with reduced player worlds on the server list the talent will be working together to make one good player world.

I biggest problem I have ever seen in any PW, is the staff... They fight amongst(sp) each other like children, it is impossible for ANYBODY to get along in this world...

Still nothing that original, it's all been done before. I am impressed with your chat system, but that doesn't make a great playerworld.

There is a thing about that, servers such as Frolic are having some trouble getting things done because of conflicts, i balive you should talk to the owners of each server your going to take down and talk to them about it and see if you can figure something out becuase i would like to keep frolic up, the staff want the same thing, we just need some more time ( the ajustment between new owners and real life stuff messed things up, but i balive i can help frolic and the staff get things together and we could get things done quickly. we would just need some time, not much just a little.

I'm supporting SLP 100%. I belive we can change Frolic together with the staff. We just need some time.

It doesn't matter. When you were starting up you used their scripts, and now you're telling others in your position to concentrate on quality and not sell out. Hypocrisy is bad.

James, I agree 100%. I'd like to add on, if I may...

The ongoing obsession with people making playerworlds won't end. There will always be someone who may not have any skill at all, aspiring to be the future manager of his/her playerworld. And to those people, I say this to you:

Power is a nice thing to have. I have had power before in Graal. I once was Mithica's manager (albeit it was a short term for me, no complaints about it either.) Before that point, I always wanted to have the power to make all the decisions, but I quickly realized that I was unfit to lead. I openly admit that I do not have the skill it takes to maintain a server the way it should be maintained. It's not about the lvl 4 RC, and the power, folks. It's about something you love to do, and do it because you love it.

Konidias for example...He has all the power someone can get in Graal, and his development for his playerworld is superb. Even without his GMship here, I'm pretty condifent that he'd still be making Oasis, not just for the RC, but because he puts the time, and effort into what he does, and he enjoys it. It shows in his work, it really does.

So please, before any of you decide to make a playerworld, make sure you're doing it not for the power, but for wanting to produce quality art that others can admire, and want to always come back to see more. Hell, in most cases, I think that being a LAT is more gratifying than being a manager (if you're good at levels.) Managership should be for those who are articulate, and skilled enough to handle it.

I believe this is the most intelligent post I have read here on these Forums, I agree Management is not for everyone , it is one big headache and you really have to love what you do and survive of very few comments on what a good job your are doing(that is if you are).It takes a while to form; plan and shape your PW to what you want to see in it and for the enjoyment of all the players, you can have the best levels and best scripts on Graal but with bad Staff and bad Management it will all go down the toliet. Without that certain "air of friendlyness and Fun" on a server it is doomed. Each server has its own charm about it and the players just have to choose what enviroment they wish to play in , but like I said previously Management can and will destroy a server if handled badly.

The problem with many managers is that they personally have no talents whatsoever. They just round up other people to do all their work for them and thus have no love or appreciation for the server, when you make it yourself you are VERY dedicated to it, when it's something that you yourself have not contributed you just tend to not care whatsoever. Just my opinion - King Arthur.

Just because a manager doesnt know how to make level, script, etc doesnt mean they have no love or appreciation for the server they are running. I didnt make npulse, but I have a great appreciation, and dedication to the server.

Making levels and scripts doesn't make a Good Manager , it is nice to have that knowedge and skill , but a Manager who does have those skills and yet don't have the skills to "Manage the server" is far worse off. Then problems arise in Staff , then players and then no matter what skills in levels or script they have even if they are the best on Graal , it will all go down the toliet in short time. That is why in my opinion it is far more important that a Manager can manage and organize the server than to have skills in those areas. It's like a president of a country , when he gets into office he does not have all the skills he needs to run the country or even know how BUT he must be a good Manager to surround himself with the best in the fields he needs in all areas to get the job done. This can also be likened to here , surround himself with the best Staff he can find to get it done , as not having a love for the server because he didn't make it is bunk.... pride is the real issue. If he/she doesn't have pride in what they do and do the very best job they can then yes the server will fail , but this will go right back to the cause which is they do not have the skills in managing or the pride in doing a job well done. This is my opinion.

Kaimetsu will become famous soon enough
Hmm. I think scripting knowledge is very important to managing because it lets you see what is and isn't possible, and thus allows your creativity to run freely without being held back by doubt. Thinking about implementing an experience system? J00 gonna have to go talk to your scripter, and there's always the likelihood that he won't share your vision. A Scripter Manager can implement all his new ideas and systems immediately without waiting for his scripter to come online and finish what he's doing. A Scripter Manager doesn't need to worry about the workload he's placing on his scripters or go through the tiresome struggle to find new scripters should his current one leave.

Summary: Scripters rock. I'm not saying that you can't be a good manager without being a scripter too. Of course you can. But any sort of creative skills are useful in a position like this.

I agree good knowedge of scripting would be hugely helpful on Managing a Server unfortunatle not all of us have had the time or are as gifted as some of you guys are.
