What has Graal become?

It's being too MMORPG-ey.

What we need is a GOOD classic server. No fancy tilesets, fancy graphics, fancy NPCs. Just good old Noglisca (sp)...

I'd make a server like this, but I don't have staff. And I'm not the best NPC scripter around...

Anybody interested? We may make another classic server happen.

Graal used to be a fun game.

Now it's becoming more of a business to stefan and unixmad than it is a game.

Remaking classic and a classic-like server are different things.

I know that the strong comunity left, and more jerks came in, but this may reunite people. We can have fun, rather then just sitting around waiting for staff to finish overly fancy projects.

That's because Graal is, by definition, an MMORPG. You can't blame them for making their game to fit the genre of what it's supposed to.

You can't also blame them to expanding and further developing the game. They're in business to make money.

Exactly! I like Graal and like the "classic" stuff. But I also like being able to tailor my PW to how I want it with my own graphics. The improvements in the game's engine allow for such things. Heck, we all get tired of the same stuff sooner or later

It's impossible to keep a game a game. Even something like Scrabble is a business. Looks like we'll have to cope.

I'm happy with the way graal is, some of the newer things happening allows more expansive horizons to be broken, and make the game more enjoyable. Although I'm against servers that don't allow pking (at all, like Valk) and ones with crap tilesets, not that I hate the server itself, I just hate those ideas

Ehem, why would you want PlayerKillers on an RP server? Please answer that honestly. They cause disruption and other problems for thos that want to enjoy playing and not having to fight off lamers that are "bored"

Since it seems many of you want to make a playerworld that would be fun. Here's my advice.

Generate a 10x10 world. That should be about 100 outside levels.

Make a pure adventure world that is somewhat similar to many of our favorite Adventure/RPG's. I'm sure you know which ones.
Use the ideas from those games to sort of structure yourself.
I remember a game where when you entered a quest it would say level 1 when entering.
It would be quite interesting if there was different level quests.
For the first quest you obtain a bomb and a heart at the end when you defeat the villain. Then for the second quest make it where you have to use that bomb to do several sections of it and then obtain another NPC that you must use for level 3.

And so on and so on. There's several other ways as well you guys can possibly make a seriously fun adventure playerworld. It all depends if you can get everything structured and dedicated people to do it. The scripters would be the most important part.
I don't think you would need great Level Makers either, just ones that don't overlap things like crazy. Plain simple levels would be fine.

The chances of someone actually doing something like this I guess won't be possible. Someone will generate a 500 level overworld thinking they can fill it all up. :/

I generated a 2048 level overworld and I'm quite confident I can fill it up

Well, I don't see why they won't allow it, whenever I go on there all their doing is complaining about names and not doing RP events. They could at least have desiginated areas that allow pking.

Then its not an RP server.

Once I have all of the RP elements finished for my PW, I will be very quick to boot PKers. Why? Because they disrupt others from having fun and enjoying the game. If you don't want to roleplay, then don't come

If that is how Val does it, then that is their business. As far as I'm concerned. Roleplaying on my PW is not mandatory, but it is a favorable thing to do. Any RP events held must be provided and managed by the players.

Besides, roleplaying isn't about massive events. The definition is different from person to person, but roleplaying can be anything from performing daily tasks to fighting off huge undead armies...its what the player wants.

Console RPGs are different since they are pretty linear and you must follow a storyline...since Graal is an MMORPG, the players control how the story and game flow.

I was losing interest in Graal, but now with Maloria improving everyday and with the best RPG Online Game I've ever played (Graal2002), I'm interested again...

And both of servers (Maloria and G2k2) give me lots of fun...

I remember recommending this to someone on Shadow Knight's Forums about 4 months ago. I recommended to this guy to make a subway system or a bus system. I think the guy worked for 2k1 as well, but he needed some ides for his own playerworld he was working on.

Someone might remember it. Some guy that posted a screenshot of a london type street area.

Thats the thing Npulse has never and never will be a RP Server , if we must call it something it will be a Entertainment Server because when finished it will have many "areas of different themes including RP" Its just one of many and not the only "theme" of Npulse , we will diverse to cater to many taste of the players and not to just one, this should increase the appeal of Npulse to be a more rounded and fuller approach to entertaining the players.

2k2 is mainly an RP server but that isn't its only theme.
It does have mini games, not as many as 2k1 has but it has a few like go-karts, hockey and metris.

I was making the point that Roleplaying is general term used to describe what a person is doing. Typically, most group roleplaying is organized to an extent and has a purpose or a reason...they all usually agree on what will take place as they play through the impromptu story.

Yes, roleplaying is fun, but impossible to enforce. And those who can't roleplay but think they are tend to ruin the whole experience. Thus, I think servers should stay away from roleplaying.

Graal is NOT an RPG. It is an Adventure-RPG (As I like to call it.) RPGs are more statistic and equipment like (See G2K2,) Graal was ment to be an Adventure-RPG (See Classic.)

However, somewhere along the line, it got bumped off and now it's all bad.

I think that Criminal/Xbob's idea is a good one. Making it more Zelda-adventure-style-ish. I'd do that, but rocks know more about scripting then I do

The focus has been driven more from the adventure aspect to the roleplaying aspect. People would much rather play in a somewhat non-linear world

If Tyme wanted, Classic could be extremely linear...but he has it linear enough to make a small story that can be added on to when needed.

For the most part, its simpler to make a non-linear world because you don't have to spend time on creating a real fancy storyline or series of quests and what not that help develop the story as you progress. While linear RPGs are fun, I like to be able to control what I see in the ways I want to

I have a server I made about 2 years ago. Its as classic as you can get. Hardly any grass in the levels like old times. Yup its called Archemedes. Heh old CDA might remember me making it, but it was being finished around CDA time so some might not. I will/would submit it if I can get it off my friends comp.
