I should probably start tiling mine now, if I want to have a chance of even finishing it. 1000 gralats would be one hell of a prize --- I've never cared much for 2k1's economy, but a few new hats would be nice.
1000 gralat? That's only third prize :O

Ack, Gori won, hands down. Who gets his prize, though, since his account has run out? Thak, for letting him post on his account?

Nah, thats not a style, he didn't win yet, it just looks impressive, but it's not really, anyone with too much time could do that, its all just random stuff that looks bad. Style isn't show the best edge maker.

mmmmkay: Exactly, after you've seen one of those levels, you've seen them all. Now to me they are at an extent that you cannot jam more stuff into the level. I'm sick of them ((!

Oh, good. *Continues tiling*

One gripe I've always had that's become most infuriating now than ever, is that Graal levels are so damn small. I've had to scale down my design so many times for this contest that the final product's going to be less than a fifth of what I had originally imagined.

Quiet, you two .

I know it did, but I ran it by Birdbird to see if I was allowed to submit it or not, and he OKed it.
Actually, I don't even think I had that many graphics, just big ones.
I only added 3 tiles with addtiledef [the roof]. The front pillars are are in image, the fountain is an image, and the shadow is an image. I think those are the only custom things that I did.

I might submit something shortly *cracks knuckles*

If you guys have at least 1024x768 resolution, you can just press alt+enter to go full screen and then do a printscreen or something. I use HyperSnapDX for my screen capturing but you could just press the print screen key and then paste it into a paint program.

There is no other way currently to screenshot the whole level and include the lights and stuff unless you take several screens of the level and piece them together.

Oh, and the level with the blue roof and all the custom graphics.. those graphics look like they were taken from this other old online game I saw recently. The biggest giveaway was the leaf shadow overlay, because it's pretty close to the other game I saw.

My favorite has to be Shadowless Warrior's so far.

Not to argue, but ask Zolrieg or Mmmmkay. I actually showed zolrieg the updates on all of the graphics, so he knows I made them personally, and Mmmmkay has the tiles that I used to make the leaves.

i like the shadows alot, it gives it a very cool feel...the level makes me think of FFTactics...or maybe Secret of Mana...i like it, although perhaps a few too many extra gfx for this competition...as the gfx is really what made the level extra interesting, for me atleast.

More people enter! Before I beat you! I like that one with the shadows too... But in one space it looks like he cut something out... it looks like those marching ant things...

Yeah, I can back that statement up. He did some rough sketches first, and then made the rest in MS Paint. Don't call me Zolrieg either, biatch. It's Kasuagi.

I believe Zakur's level should be disbanded from the contest. He used an outside image editing program to add that transparency over his level.

Graal has no transparency value. It has alphablending, but it would not make an image transparent and dark. Even using seteffect on the level and using a white image to reverse, it wouldn't make that effect. It was obviously pasted over the level in a paint program. Not to mention the house is using dozens of graphics that aren't in the tileset.

Corupt: I agree Zakur used alot of gfx but that level is just breath taking he did an awesome job and put his time into it so what if he used alot of images or what not the level is great but I didnt care to read the contest rules but if he broke any of them then don't gripe about it just tell birdbird but that level is awesome Zakur great work man one thing that strikes me odd about it is the transparent pillars I don't see the point in those but everything else is great

I'm not griping about it. I just was alerting everyone including Birdbird, that the level was edited in a paint program. The level isn't even really all the spectacular.. the graphics are okay, but the level isn't the best. There's even an error on the bottom middle tree (you can see a tree trunk overlapping another one)

I think the levels should at least not be edited outside of the Graal level editor...

mmmmkay: Ahem, I am sorry to tell you but Drakken made the image in PAINT, which he then put into the level and used setcoloreffect. Guess what, it works, so he has not used any outside editing programs.

You're right, he could have used setcoloreffect on a very large NPC, but those marching ants still strike me as unusual...

i like the level alot but really the affect of the level almost entirely rests upon his gfx, which kinda defeats the point. The contest is on his level making skills, not his gfx skills. His tiling still is pretty good, but i think he should be judged on the effect set by those skills, not on the shadows and house tiles...

I have to vouge for Zakur on this one, He didn't edit it. I have the shadowlayer somewhere, I must say indeed it was a very clever tactic

it may have been clever, but its still a matter of the fact that if you took out the shadows and used normal house tiles on the castle, then it wouldnt be nearly as cool as it is now...

Yes but seeing birdy levels w/o the million bagillion light effects takes out most of the zest aswell. Give him a break, Hes talented in GFX and he wants to combind it with levels, I say more power to him. As long as you can acually play on the level, I see no problem.

If this is JUST tileing, You shouldn't even have 1 npc on the level. I see many who have NPCS.

Excuse me? Please explain to me how a shadow effect can be done using Graal's current engine. It is impossible, how many times do I have to tell you. Seteffect for the entire level, yes. But the overlay images are impossible. They could not be clear, and they could not be shadow gray.

I attached what "setcoloreffect" does. It changes the alpha channels. How many times am I going to have to tell you guys before you get it into your heads?

mmmmkay: Argh, why do you have to be so stubborn? I did it MYSELF! I made it WORK. Put what I attach in a level, with a setcoloreffect 1,1,1,0.136;
Mess around with alpha...higher makes the transparency become solid-like, lower makes it become almost non-visible.

No matter what you do, you're never going to get a dark shadow look, on a normal colored tileset in Graal's current editor. Until someone can prove me wrong completely, I will not change my opinion.

Setting the alpha effect on the level makes all the black colors gray or "faded". Even using setbackpal does not make the tileset look normal after using an alphablending effect.

Why don't we just ask the guy for the GFX (or atleast a small part that's been cut out) and ask for the RBG(a) values he used in the setcoloreffect???
