The economy works now because lets say I have 10 axes which I dont need, now if i really wanted a scythe i might trade 2 axes for one but i dont want a scythe I want a sword so I might trade 2 axes for a sword, so depending on the situation things will have more or less value to me, but with paper money the money just has the value that is printed on it because it has no alternative use other than buying stuff.

Actually, money could easily work in the economy, as long as it doesn't become the main source of currency. For example, some npc shop owners only except durbies, and not gralat, or some things you have to trade with other items, or buy them with different resources.
If gralat become the number one independant currency, such as every store takes gralat for their items, then it would ruin everything just like 2k1.
About the RPing, I'm positive that roleplaying isn't mandatory, which means 2k2 will continue to have people like this until they at least set some rules that everyone has to follow in order to make RPing enjoyable. If they made everything have a meaning and stuff than it would work.
Like mentioned in another post, instead of having some magical non-pk zone, have the players remove their sword before they can go inside. Have guards or something that lock you up for stealing people's rocks and stuff.
I mean in a real setting, you wouldn't see people run up and steal my rock while I'm packing 3 swords. They would leave in little pieces. But here, they can steal your rock, and you can hit them 100 times as they just laugh at you.
