Rotation? 0.o?

We need a rotation command like errm... setrotation number of degrees here

That way cool new time scripts could be made with anolog clocks, or one of those wheels w/ a moon and stars on one half and a sun on the other... This would make for a nicer "medivil" type of time system, anyway just a thought, I don't know anything about scripting anyway

The problem is, it would have to be programmed with Direct3D, and some people (the people with OLD computers with OLD graphics cards) won't be able to see it.

....

there is an active topic about this already....

anywayz, people without gfx cards cannot see zoom effects on any images besides text images.....they cannot see lighting effects, and they cannot see image color changing.

But, its good that Mr. Knorr keeps it simple so everyone can enjoy the game.

as much as i feel for the people with old computers and old video cards, they should get new ones so we can all enjoy graal and we can also have cool stuff like that. also if unix mad is so unixy, why is there not a vertsion of graal for unix/linux? damn them!

Hmm, that's a good point. If memory serves Stefan just finished porting the whole thing over to a non-DirectX-dependant drawing system so it would not rely on people having a Direct3D-compatible graphics card...
if that's so, it would seem that it's becoming Device-Independant....

The trouble though is that when Stefan releases a new version, he has to do a whole lot of work, and doesn't want to do it twice...if he had to update a Win and Linux version, updates would take twice as long. Add in Mac version, since that one's been on the books just as long, 3 times as long...

What he'd have to do is invent an emulator that runs PERFECTLY on Windows, and one that runs PERFECTLY on Linux, and one that runs PERFECTLY on Mac, then update the core that the Emulator runs...
No small task.

good point tyhm

most games developed by professionals that are retail in stores run on 2 things, Win and Mac. Not linux, and not unix. If youre running linux or unix (why you would run unix for a pc now adays is beyond me) you know that there is a shortage of software in your dept.

As for the device independent stuff, wouldnt that require more memory, more processing power, and more ram? j/c.

If we had line(x,y,x,y) or something similar
(see other post about shapes and lines) you could easily make analog clocks in fact it would be easier than using rotation prabably.

I know ... but using lines would reduce the images involved by like a thousand or so.

As im sure you know.

I've made some funky things with kstar.gif I know what it can do.

I hate the "you stole my idea" comments since most of them have been done, I have totally igven up claiming ideas as my own anymore, simply for the fact that people love stealing and claiming ownership over them. I say let them have it, if they need publicity badlye enough to steal, that is thier problem.

In any case, Rotating images would be nice. And I tihnk the EZest way to do this would be to up to requrements for 2K2. I mean lets face it, All the good games either need a #d card or strongly recomment one. If you cant afford a 3d Card that is sad, but the 16mg ones are cheep, and that is really all you need. The posibilities of a 16mg accelerated have been really overlooked as to thier full potential.

I personally believe that people should be GLAD when someone further publicizes their idea, gives it a better chance of getting in the game.

I usually use @. for it. Since that means you can change the colors of the line too.

And honestly, I don't really see the purpose of image rotation except for GUIs, since Graal does not have a completely top down viewpoint, it'd be pretty useless in game.

what lang is graal writen in? to make platform development eaiser why just not make an extension set that defines functions, that way, once you have the base system writen, adding most features to graal will be as easy as adding it to one version, then just compling for difrent platforms using difrent libairies.

Image flipping is entirely possible with DirectX.

man people who LIKE windows, unless xp, really are beyond me, why run unix?! OMG! unix is the best playform ever i have 4 systems in my office running unix. It can stand a beating and its WAY more secure than Windows. Second of all there are emulators for linux, its called wine and thats what i use now, i am almost completly linux dependant, except for a few of those programs that are really retarded and when ever you try to run them anywhere besides windows 95/98/SE it crashes or says "This can only be run in windows", there should be another button called "try anyway" instead of just "cancel". If anyone is interested in running graal on their linux system, http://www.winehq.com and if you want to get linux, http://www.slackware.com/, however if this is your first linux install and youdon't want to do more than you need to, go to your local software store and pick up redhat 7.2 its the greatest, but if u want to play more gaming stuff, get mandrake 8.3. and btw rotating is awesome i think it should be made.

I have no doubt you have made analog clocks without rotate effects.

That's not the point.

It would be way easier and would require much less scripting to make an analog clock with rotation effects. Or with line drawing effects.

Is it so hard to draw a line? Please somebody. Tell stefan to add a line drawing function! There are so many applications. It would add to visual effects appeal a great deal.
