Graalains, forum members, and guest, this is my State Of The Forums address. Now, mind you all this is merely my opinion over everything that happens on the forums. I see many different things happening on the forums, most of which are familiar to me. I have seen and done many things in all my years in the message board “business” you could say. I’ve run message boards, I’ve posted on many, I’ve had modship on a few, super mod, etc. This is not my resume though, so I’ll stop there.
For almost a week I’ve been thinking about posting a kind of “State Of The Forums” thread, though really all it is, is my complete opinion, and I’ll be explaining and commenting on my different opinions in this thread. I’ll bold the topic I’ll be discussing, and underneath I’ll give my opinion. After all of that, I’ll move on to people, because I have several people I believe I should mention; remember though all of this is my opinion. Now you may hate me after this, because I think I may overstep my bounds here…if you hate me though…so be it. My goal on message boards has never been to become popular; for some reason though, I keep becoming popular. Oh well, let us begin.
The Spamming On The Forums
I spend many hours on the forums themselves (if I only spent that much time on Graal also) I see many different replies to topics, different threads etc. But it annoys me to no end to see people go to a topic and just post “yeah” to everything someone says. Spamming is a very lame thing to do, I spam also, but most of the time it is in jest, and not meant to raise my “almighty” post count.
I’ll address people’s concerns with their post count later. Right now though I’m talking about spamming. Blade50 is a good example at the moment. He’s just spamming his little heart out to raise his post count by replying to every topic with some stupid post, if it can even be considered that. The kind of posts he makes he might as well reply with just a single letter rather then “words” if things like “thx” and such can be counted as words. Spamming gets you nothing besides a raise in post count, and then half the time you lose all of that because a mod deletes the thread. There goes all of those “meaningful” posts, oh no! “What shall happen since my post count has been lowered? I will call the mods corrupt because they deleted my thread!” Do you not see the idiocy there? The mods are doing there job and keeping spam off the forums, because spam can ruin the overall fun of a message board, therefore here are what I purpose should happen regarding spamming:
- Create a forum where you can spam all you won't, but it doesn't raise your post count.
- If you spam outside of the forum, you are given 5 warnings... but these must be pure spam topics, like replying with the spam smilie, or just go "yeah" several times for no reason.
- After 5 warnings you get a 1-week ban.
- If you continue to spam you get banned until an admin decides to unban you.
All The Corruption Threads On The Forums
These kinds of threads are some of the silliest kinds of threads on the forums. Barely a day can go by without me seeing someone who claims they were unjustly banned, or wrongfully jailed, etc. There is a very famous saying that goes “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” It’s a very true statement; power tends to corrupt, but just because you have power doesn’t mean you will become corrupt. Because some people, do not become corrupt. Granted there have been some worthwhile threads where there actually is true corruption, but when someone is whining on and one about how they were unjustly banned from a PW, then it becomes stupid.
If you are banned, take it up with the person who banned you, because there is always a reason. If you somehow pissed them off, deal with it and wait the ban out. Calling them corrupt and insulting them and their player-world on the forums will NOT get you unbanned any quicker. Whining only shows you are immature, and no server owner wants an immature player on their server. So just privately take it up with them, and calmly see why you are banned don’t IM/PM saying “U SUX! U R CURRUPT! STEFAN SHULD TAKE DOWN UR PW!” This will never help your case.
Maturity, and respect is everything. Remember that well, or else you may be banned for a long time. If someone was saying I suck and I’m corrupt I wouldn’t lift a ban on them, would you?Therefore, here are my suggestions for what should happen:
- Corruption threads should be banned, for forever.
The Flaming And Insults I See On the Forums
No message board is ever flame free, ever. It’s just not humanly possible. Remember that people young and old view the forums, and if they see it’s nothing but insults are they going to want to post there? No, they will not. They’ll go somewhere else where they don’t have to listen to constant bickering. They’ll go somewhere else were people won’t spam their topic to death, and then because of the spamming and people laughing at them saying they suck the whole topic is then lost.
How many people do you know want to come to a message board and be treated like absolute ****? Do you want to be treated like nothing but garbage whenever you try to give your views, or ideas? How about when you ask a question, do you want people to laugh at you call you a “n00b”, or an idiot, or both? No, no one wants that yet people continue to act like this. This is what causes newer members to claim they have been playing Graal for a long time. That’s something else I’ll address later in this thread.
Anyways, the mods try to keep the forums as flame free as possible people don’t seem to realize that. Here is an example: Today a new member to the forums asked a simple question, which was “Do you get a free hat if you make one?”. This is a common question and you think people would reply to it with a “no”. Instead, one member posts this instead as a reply

This is what I am talking about. Someone completely new to the forums is almost immediately treated like an idiot who does know anything at all. Do some of you find this enjoyable, is this the correct thing to do now on the forums, to insult anyone who doesn’t know something? Did the rules change to “If someone asks a question you deem is stupid, you may insult them to no end, laugh at them, call them a noob, and then ignore them because you are better then them because you know the answer, whereas they do not”?
If this is what has happened, then you all might as well consider me gone, because I will not stay where such folly is present. How many people must it take to leave Graal and the forums for you to awaken from this blindness? When will you realize it? Hopefully soon, because I would rather not have to leave right now because I would have no other place to visit. I insult people myself, but I try very hard to give reasons why I am insulting them. I guess in a sense I do “logical insulting”.
Suggested rules for the insults and flaming:
- The flaming needs to stop, or at least try to stop. No one is here just to get their ass chewed out by someone who thinks they're better then them because they started earlier.
- SHOW SOME RESPECT FOR PEOPLE!
- Do not go off and insult/flame someone simply because they do not know the answer to a question.
- The people who continuously flame others when asked to stop get a 1-week ban.
- After the 1-week ban the person continues to flame they are banned until an admin decided to lift the ban.
