Erm.. are you sure it's not the random 'Traps' that spawn on some of the doors?

I recall grinding haunted houses for days/weeks with just a (bile) dagger and this never happened to me. Though it seems logical you might be hitting the traps that do exist, perhaps your resistances are weak.
