Shaded Legend

Hello Graal,

Some of you may have noticed Shaded Legend is back up on the Graal Servers. I know some of you may be against this, and some may be for this.

I know the opinions will be 50/50.. It won't work, it may work. However, my goal is just to give it attempt to bring it back to a playable graal server.

There has been some speculation that i have stolen the content, however Loakey Ronso, and James205 have talked about it and they have sent permission to Stefan and the PWA to give me the rights to the server and continue to develope Shaded Legend.

I just want everyone to know that I have the permission to the server, and I'm not stealing the content from anyone. The permission has been giving to me.

If anyone has any questions or concerns they can contact me via PM or AIM.

It's just a shot i thought I'd take to see what i can do.

or maybe he lost his mind and actually said yes, suppose he has nothing to lose.

The server is coming along great. Server Jobs are coming along well, remakes of quests and new quests will be started this week sometime!

What would you guys like to see, keeping along the classic type of Shaded Legend?

I don't remember magic being that great, maybe spice it up?

If I remember right, your events were pretty cool. Make sure to bring em back!

Also make sure to keep the different weapon types and secondary attacks. That was awesome

I'll see what I can do, we are currently waiting for Stefan to get back to us on a backup, which will include everything as it was.

I have some events but not the full set, I'm missing the tilesets but it's all i can do for now until i receive the backup. Once i get that, I'll see where we are at and let you guys know some more.

I actually just heard about it just now (from Cujo) and I haven't lost my mind Crono ;P

I don't mind actually and might contribute a little bit but quite honestly they need the backup from Stefan to be able to actually do it. This process has apparently been taking forever.

Eh, I don't really do much LATing anymore. I really should but just cba anymore. Run around as a GP on Zodiac nowadays. :3

Thanks Loakey, as you can see i got it from Stefan so no big deal now.

Everything's coming along great, trying to get all the scripts into GS2 then i'll have to go around and do some overworld work. I'll then fix up quests, create new quests. I'll probably improve on the spells, make more.

If anyone has any ideas, i would be more then happy to hear about them. Please just let me know what you guys want.

A little progress update for you guys:

Mining - Completed
Fishing - Completed
Events/Event Systems - Completed
Spells - 85% Finshed
Morphing (Golem, Snake, Turtle) - Completed
Systems - 50% Finshed
Quests - 45% Finshed - Read Note

That is some of the stuff we have been working on, more of it will be posted as it comes along. This is not everything we have worked on, we have worked on much more through time. The reason that the quests are not close to be finished is because i haven't quite decided. A lot of the quests are nonfunctional and will have to be totally re scripted. In some cases it may just be easier to create a new quest. The bandit quest will work, with a few adjustments from the original quest.

I also want to know, who likes adventure quests? Quests where you have to go different places around the map in order to complete it, or do you prefer quests where you go to one spot and do things, simple quests.

If you guys have any questions,comments, or suggestions I would really like to hear from you.

Sorry for the double post.

Most of you may know and understand what happened to Shaded Legend. I had been away for a couple days, and when i came back some immaturity has tooken it over and decided to get rid of it. However, i was being smart and made backups every day.

I have just sent my purchase for a server where it will be 100% operated by me. I will not be releasing the Server to the public for a couple of weeks. I want to be way more developed then what it was when we went hosted.

If anyone is intrested or has questions please contact.

I hope you understand, that it was not my idea to shut down Shaded Legend it was taken over by immaturity and i had no say.

Now that I think of it, the files that Loakey and James wanted me to use was the 2006 files. So it's the 2005-2006 version of SL really.

well they wern't the ones we wanted to you to use . we were hoping for a more recent copy with the bigger gmap and some of the gs2 conversion done but that's not what we got .

shouldn't you be idling on your dusty covered server that should have shut down 8 year's ago but didn't cause you guys didn't have the common sense to shut it down before it died .

nice one there, but if i had to compare Classic to Shaded Legend, i would say that Shaded Legend is not going anywhere while Classic is.

You mean the server which we've actually bothered to come up with a new plan for, much of that plan having since been executed rather than remaining theoretical (feel free to see Youtube videos of actual new content), got rid of the old/out-dated/inefficient systems and re-coded everything from scratch (including fully custom systems as opposed to default) with a much higher amount of abstraction/organisation/optimisation, and the server which could very easily be on the list if we wanted to asap, but we'd rather take our time giving it a greater level of completion than take reputation for granted?

It's funny that you choose to take an unprovoked swipe at Classic, because there's a hell of a lot you could learn from it if you want SL to become more than just a re-hash of an old server that died out several years before pre-wipe Classic did. And you know, taking the server off the list to redevelop it wasn't forced either, it was a choice, one that's been stuck to all along and isn't a great deal away from obtaining the fruits of its labour.

But if you feel you can resurrect a project from over half a decade ago with just "a few upgrades", then good luck to you I suppose.

never spooon , and no Thor it wasn't just a swipe at the server . i hate when people post in threads talking down on a server like the one they have worked on for years and doesn't seem to be going anywhere is all that and a bag of chips . but feel free to continue derailing this thread , in the mean time ill go look for those videos . i had enjoyed classic back in the day as much as anyone else , but times change as well as people .

SL also had a lot work put into making its own stuff , such as the new inventory , the gui , the message systems for event and random chating plus a hell of a lot of level work . which was all done way before any other server had them (take the events which every other server copied) . I don't consider SL the greatest server , or the best server . It was simple a good server , but like all things the times change . It's not the server i dislike , it's the company you keep .

Skyzer wasn't talking down on your server, he was suggesting that it needs to do something new, because as good as it may have been at one point in the past that no longer applies. If you can recognise this as being true for Classic (even though it can be argued this is no longer the case), you should be able to recognise this being true for Shaded Legend.

Also it is hardly derailing the thread by referring to a relevant comparison, plus you were the one who brought up the subject about a different server.

So I guess constant player complaints about the server didn't prompt any sort of global action at all, right? Doesn't matter that you wanted to keep it UC.

It had little/nothing to do with player complaints as has already been verified multiple times, but this is not the place to discuss it, nor is it really worth discussing in length now anyway.
