Offering Gifts for Returning Players

I've noticed that on successful MMO's they have offered players gifts for returning back to their game. Normally it's in the form of experience potions, or special benefits pertaining to stats or whatever the case may be.

If there would be some sort of way to send a notification to all idle accounts that they have a gift waiting for them if they return in a certain amount of time, I'm sure it would bring some players back at least to check it out. And who knows, you might get a few who stay around.

It could be any thing from a unique item, to a potion that increases experience gain for a certain amount of time.

48 hours of 50% extra experience would be a good incentive for those who like to level.
should stack with other experience bonuses like bmode.

But some subscribe for many months at a time, instead of monthly with gelats. They should perhaps get much larger resub rewards.

This might work for games that are actually improving, but I've never scratched my balls and then thought to myself "hey I really miss having crabs".

"Hey remember that free game you used to play that had hundreds of players on each server? Well now you have to pay for it and the servers are basically dead. Wanna play again?"

If that is the case I'd just use my 2nd account to farm these "unique" items and experience potions and what not. Offering gifts to idle-accounts who return to the game could be abused so easily. People could just make a range of accounts to hoard these items.

I think we need some real content to make them want to stay first. You can farm Zombies for the next 48 hours. Get a single crypt in.

A good start would be removing the penalties for quitting, such as allowing players to get their houses back after they fall.

I think this would be a real good start. It's the reason why I quit for so long before eventually returning. I'd be back much faster if all my houses didn't go poof.

Until GK gets more content and more security with alternate accounts [if that's possible] offering rewards does sound a little easy to abuse and kind of a cheap "here, take some more token items! and maybe some other stuff ultimately unfulfilling because the server is so dead!" that might backfire. Let's see how many people will come back over time if there's some sort of "Home Insurance" where the house may disappear from the island maps for cleaning but can be reaccessed later.

Yeah yeah, I can guess. HUGE waste of resources on the server that'll add up fast storing all those. [Although haven't a lot of them been sitting around for ages anyway undeleted?] If houses have to eventually be deleted for the sake of server maintennance then make home insurance have some sort of tangible cost to help with that. Just make sure there's a free alternative: Like a traditional bank or some such that will hold a simple list of items rather then an entire level or three.

Items from fallen houses are already stored indefinitely. Not sure about the levels themselves, but it's not a huge deal.

Awesome. Still like the bank idea for long term item storage but if houses can be saved I guess its a moot point.

Well, it could maybe be possible that if you log out for more than 30 days or so, your house will disappear until you log in again or something. Not sure if we will do that though.
