The problem is the whole car will vibrate, not just the engine. Very slight vibrations, subpixelling will benefit you here if you can pull it off, but single pixel vibrations may work. Movement will just be more exaggerated, like, 3 or 4 pixel bouncing.
Right now your car looks like a dog sniffing the ground :P
