iPhone Playerworld test
I think we owners of playerworlds should be able to test our worlds on iPhone. It could be a private thing, where you must have RC to log on, but I think it would be a nice place for us to hang out and do some different kind of scripts.

hmm, seeing that classic server is server-side scripted as much as possible, it wouldnt be such a good idea to let all servers be able to get on with an iphone without iphone-ser er-scripting.

i dont like this idea, however, if you want to make a iphone server, go ask stefan!

With such supposed servers already existing and being accessible from a computer plus an iPhone server HUB (which I believe is planned) I don't think this would be costly in itself or difficult, but I can imagine that for what little it's worth it could likely cause more problems if widely available considering the majority of private playerworld "owners" do not have good scripting understanding and iPhone capabilities are much more limited, not to mention things like serverwarp.

If your idea is good enough, and you can state your case well to Stefan I don't see why he wouldn't be able to get something setup so you could test your server on the iPhone.

I believe it doesn't transfer data from the computer account & the iphone account which is why you can't play on different platforms. Well, that's a guess; i'd love to play Maloria on the iPhone

To just test it's ok but if this is to release it publicly it would be bull**** cause there are a lot of severs half done, half abandoned, full of bugs, scripts errors and people who wanna play it even for free that will make a bad advertise to Stefan or globally Eurocenter.

To test Era iPhone we had to get our ipod pcid approved by Skyld, and then server warp to Era iPhone from Classic iPhone.

The iPhone client is actually capable of playing on existing Graal servers since iPhone accounts are essentially just special trial accounts that "never run out", however there are some limitations. Just to name a few:
  • You're limited to on-screen controls, which need to be designed well, and also existing GUI windows with fiddly controls of any kind (scrollbars, list controls with thin rows, etc) need to be modified to be finger-friendly
  • You always need to test on an older device so that some people aren't lagging when others are, and older devices have quite slow CPUs and don't cope well at all with clientside timeouts or heavy clientside scripting
  • Certain functionality is missing (such as the built-in Q menu, the default PM system, a few script functions)
  • People that use iPhones over GPRS/EDGE are going to be subject to a pretty latent and horrible connection; it will take them ages to log in and they'll be very laggy
If you have some specific project in mind then you can speak to me about it and something can maybe be sorted to allow testing on iPhone.

I don't know, I'm pretty happy. I pretty much have unlimited gold sub as long as I keep helping Xor with Classic iPhone scripts for those gelats, and a classic-enabled dev server that I can test scripts on the iPhone client.

Well, your the graphic artist here; Someone like you would know how to make it look like I actually posted that.

But that's beside the point. This thread was created to discuss the possibility of being able to test servers on iPhone.

I just read that again. How did i just misinterpret that? xD oops well I just thought it would be a cool idea to maybe pay 10$ and have it accessible from iPhone and PC, as long as you pay for the rest of the costs. All it would give you are the scripts to have it be accessible from iPhone
