What i see in other games like BFBC2 is that for some weapons only the stock and frontgrip have camo on them, which might give the weapon also a more interesting look. It might also give some contrast, the lighter camo and the darker "body".

Camos on weapons is pretty cool.

The one Liberated made? I will have to definitely take into account the color scheme, I have to work a bit more with shading though, it's so complex to do it on pixel art that is literally less than a few tiles large and wide.
