The Official Sælei Thread

Briefing:
the æ is alt-0230. Sælei are basically gonna be the Graal "sprites", not quite Faeries, but close. Playable, obviously, some magic, they can train in offensive or defensive (black or white), they fly over all terrain, attack with a bow instead of a sword, maybe a very tiny bow...
Default skins I've come up with so far, a girl with butterfly wings, an evil girl with bat wings, you can pretty much go crazy from there...yellowjackets, mosquitos, whatever. They're supposed to be support characters, so they're not so much for questing alone as helping others quest, thus the healing magic and/or attack magic (fireball?)

The "little bow" could also shoot maybe a bit faster and now freeze the player for so long

Probably better that it just do small damage but have infinite shots, in my opinion.

If there was one I'd like to be a fairy. I like cute things.

If they were there I'd probably try playing as both of the types of Sælei... I'm willing to help with the scripting and gani parts of course when someone has made the actual templates with pictures.
And perhaps the Sælei should be able to fly over certain things that other races cannot?

I could adapt the Cane of Brugara code, make a mini-bow...does 0 damage by default, and that's their "sword"...I might even be able to pull the arrow graphic from the skin itself, so you can have color-coordinated mini-arrows...^__^
Then you can upgrade it to one that does damage, and that'd cost real arrows...maybe put that in the template too, 3 powers of arrow (4 directions) and a magic spell, off to the right where everyone puts their signature.
If I used an array, you could probably have like 50 darts on screen at once or so...per Sælei...so they could certainly shoot faster...damage detect behind the dart every cycle, it'd be able to shoot faster too...definitely doable.

Yes, the Sælei would be able to fly over anything, and if the bow and arrow is in the skin, you could certainly make a slingshot Sælei. ^_^

Hmm... what if they had two techniques, physical and magical?

Physical: Slingshot, bow and arrows, mini-crossbow, etc.
Magical: Tiny fireball, small traveling explosion, etc.

Maybe you could have both traits at the same time, and be able to switch in between? I think that would be cool.

Again, the scripting's gonna be the easy part. The graphics might be the hardest part, plus I don't exactly have the slightest idea what stringvar the Bomys (and now the Zulites) use for health...so a healing spell would be moderately difficult. I could just add some code for a system NPC, but I no so very little about this new NPC server thing, I'd probably end up laying hearts.

Slingshot, whatever, you can do all that with the GANIs...if the bow is a slingshot in the "skin", that's how it'll appear. If it's a flying catapult, then so be it, it doesn't really matter...

One thing at a time. Zulites are in the spotlight for now...once those are completed, more energy will be dedicated to the Sælei...but right now, everyone's working on that.

I don't think Sælei should be pets...it's a little TOO Zelda to have a fairy following you around...strictly Player Characters.

Does anyone have any ideas for spells for the sælei? I was just thinking, you know how Graal now takes advantage of hardware accelerated graphics for lights and whatnot, well we could use all of that for spell effects too! Could make for some very stunning visuals, however I'm sure they take far more time to develop than normal .gif type effects but it would be worth it in the long run.

Besides, most people out there do have a hardware accelerator by now, and if they don't its an upgrade they greatly need to consider adding on. You can get them very cheap.
