Actually, there IS ways to create different types of pavement, roads, house types, wooden floor panels and chairs. You just have to look around.
The pavements in Britain are really diverse. Some are just continuous (mostly with a black strip where it's been patched over due to cable laying), some are paving stones of varying sizes, colours and many with cracks.
I generally agree with the rest of your post though.
