Post Ads On Graal?

Please read before polling.

EDIT: I am talking about a small banner ad, not a popup

If it meant free graal, Who would really mind an ad.

Lets say there was an ad on the forums,
and lets say the forums were viewed 20 times a minute.
If Graal got paid 1 cent a view, that's a dollar every 5 minutes.
So 1 cent x 60 minutes / 5 minutes to a dollar, That's 12 dollars an hour.
That means at 20 hours a day, If these forums got 20 views a minute,
That's 240 dollars a day. 240 dollars a day, 30 days a month,
Which is approximately 7200 USD a month - On 20 forum views a minute at ONLY 1 cent a view!

There are a lot of ad companies who pay 1 - 5 cents a view
to advertise their stuff, And who would really care
if there was ONE ad on the forums, Especially if it meant Free Graal.

Now free graal wouldn't have to mean Gold servers,
Or to have your own server, So they can still charge for private
servers, and even to use 3d, gk, zone.

Yeah, well I don't really see a reason we should be paying anyway that leaves out a vaguely large ammount of people out of playing graal because not everyone has the money to spare or their parents are tight wads (no offence to anyone who's parents ARE), or need money for other things useful. Plus the ads probably wouldn't even be so noticeable and would save the whole reason of having to buy an account, this would also make alot of people happy. I don't know exactly how Stefan/Unix will respond to this but it's really not that bad of an idea.

I think he was thinking more along the lines of a simple ad banner or two placed maybe at the bottom or top somewhere, hardly noticable ones. So, vote or I use my special shunning powers of doom pants.

Well we could hope it would stay a small ad, for the sake of the users T.T
That's a good point though.

Your choices are a bit misleading. For a fair poll, they should be
Ads
No Ads

Even if Graal had ads, yah right! Free graal? Graal staff (unixmad/Stefan/whoever) would just keep the extra money and still charge.

I'm okay with the idea of an ad, perhaps to pay Stefan a bit of extra money (encouragement for a Mac version of graal)

I don't see it happening at all but I do feel this would be nice if it did, not very many ideas have been listened to in the past, why start now?

If ads in PM windows couldn't make enough money to sustain Graal, there's no way a banner ad on the forums would.

It could, if PM window ads made enough to begin with, and they only went p2p because pm window ads were annoying as hell

It is, but a certain hacking group is all about graal being free, Content made by players being free to players.
You also need gold to use the forums, and just the fact you have to pay, even once (to get 'classic' status so you can play for free) turns away alot of players.

And an ad between every few posts might be okay

I actually wouldn't mind an ad in every PM window, if at the bottom, or on the side out of the way.

If Graal made one cent for every display of PMs, and on UN with, say, 70 players, every 5 minutes a player gets a PM and they play for an hour, that's some serious money.

You'd get 12 PMs, and at once cent per PM, that's 12 cents.

12 * 70 = 840;

840 cents = $8.40; and that's only for an hour.

Imagine there are that many players on for 24 hours. That's 20,160 cents. Meaning $201.60! And that's only if there are 70 players on. Graal has like three hundred players on at any time! Right now there are 540 players, not including UC playerworlds.

If each player plays for another hour, and receives one PM every five minutes, that's 6,480 cents. $64.80 USD. Not bad for an hour. And for 24 hours, 155,520 cents! $1555.20 per day. About that much, as right now not as many as normal players are on (near night time ).

I bet you Graal doesn't make $1555.20 USD per day right now, eh?

Per year that's 56,764,800 cents = $567648.00.
Half a million dollars.
Not bad.

Plus if gold servers cost money, you'd make even more. Ad a banner at the top of the forums and make even more. Ad a banner on login server and make even more.

Just don't overdue it

I would rather that money made Gold less expensive or free, otherwise it seems like a waste to me.

I already thought about the login server, and then every time someone server switches any stuff, but I figured people refresh the forums thread, change threads, or post, way more often

I will build a program that refreshes my window every 0.05 secs that will make them sum money left on 24 hrs a day, Let see I follow the crowd and do math,

1 cent per viewing.

at refreshing 0.05 secs;

1 second would mean 20 cents

1 minute would be $12.00 USD

1 hour would be $720.00 USD

1 day would be $17,280.00 USD

1 month (31 Days) is $535,680.00

1 month (30 Days) is $518,400.00

1 month (28 Days) is $483,840.00

1 month (29 Days) is $501,120.00

1 year would be $6,525,216.00

and 1 leap year would be $6,542,496.00

6.5 Million dollars a year, I could make them multi-millionaires.

Don't doubt the knowledge of Googi, if he says ads didn't work before, then they're not going to now.

A certain hacking group doesn't care and just uses "make Graal free" as a slogan because they think it plays well with other players. Viper has been "hacking" since long before p2p.

And you guys think you're going to find someone willing to pay 1 cent per view on ads displayed in PM windows? I'd like to see that. Advertising payouts (especially for views, which hardly anybody and definitely not anybody major still pay for) have declined (talking in per-view/per-click terms) since the 1990s. If it couldn't support Graal then it's not going to support it now. Even if we suppose that Graal actually did make a profit, obviously it's making more of a profit now (or else we would have already gone back to ads), so there's no incentive to go back.

I know a lot of ad services paying .05 to .10 per view, but theres a certain limit per month, but its preaty high. I don't know their true intentions, but they SAY thats what it is, and I have been told by others its true, So not knowing myself, Ill have to take their word for it.

I don't mind paying for graal once a year, so it doesnt really matter.. But I'm with googi on this, they did try it and if it worked we would have ads already.

Rapidwolve is an unknown quantity at this point
Why not add them anyways, even if it didn't bring enough money in for free accounts i'm sure it would atleast reduce the cost of how much we pay for our accounts.

1 cent a view never! You maybe get 0.01 cent a view but you can get 1 cent for a click...
