RC Notification?

ZOMG HAHA I was thinking about this on RC 'cause if someone tries to tel lyou something in RC chat, you're likely not to know until you decide to check or edit something and see it, or if they PM you, so why not have a mini sound system, or the RC window, when minimized, flashes...

It'd be blinking and/or making noises most of the time then. That could get quite annoying.

I'd say make the button for the playerlist icon in RC have a flashing PM icon on it. The one in the taskbar just is hard to notice. Though I like the suggestion of when minimized, blink(like msn/aim and such do), except, have an option to disable it for mass messages.

Well, forget the noises, but atleast have the bar flash, otherwise some people (including me) won't know when :P Or have a flashy OTHER colored PM-like bubble in the taskbar?

on IRC, with some clients, if someone mentions your exact nickname in chat it will mark it so that you might notice it more easily - or even make a noise as well as mark it.

I think that's the better option here. An example of such chat might be:

Stefan: Stephen - did you get those graphics done yet?
Stephen: Stefan - Did you finish that pizza yet, slug?

I think all together, these should be the main additions:
The playerlist button on RC should blink when you receive a PM, instead of the RC icon.
The taskbar should blink when you receive a PM, with an option to disable mass messages from doing so, and disable it all together.
Highlight your name on RC chat. The only problem with this is people on Graal don't really have simple names, and I can't think of times anyone says someone's exact name. So I dunno...

Make it so you only have to type their partial name, and press a hotkey, like tab or something, to make their full nickname. Since we are getting into mIRC, figured I'd mention that, because Graal is not the only place that houses weird and demented nicknames.

Also, I still think there should be the option to receive PM notification. I'm not sure if you can have different animated icons in the toolbar or what, maybe it would get too confusing. But having the PM bubble show up if you get a PM (not a mass message), make that blink a few times, and if highlighted in RC Chat show something else:

Red Bubble: Highlighted in RC Chat and you have a PM.
Yellow Bubble: Just a PM.
Green Bubble?: Just highlighted in RC Chat.

Or you could just make the icon animated if Highlighted and have the PMs open minimized in the taskbar.

Also, thinking of the Mac users, idk what to do for you... maybe it plays a happy melody if you get highlighted, and shows a picture of a cute puppy dog if you get a PM.

I could add highlighting support very easily into the next Scripted RC.

Not sure about everyone else but I would personally find that really annoying - I think the most suitable is a very subtle sound.

Not everyone keeps their sound on all the time. You can't rely solely on sound effects.

Maybe if you say /honk Tyhm, it plays a Honk noise on Tyhm's computer? So it isn't "Any time somebody says anything on RC" or "Any time somebody highlights me" or "Any time somebody says my name", but when they're specifically trying to get your attention.

And if they abuse it, they shouldn't be on RC anyway. Maybe make it a right that can be revoked.

Then a seperate sound for "You just got PMed"

It would extremely annoying and inefficient.. Someoone like blobz will PM you over and over again with spam resulting in a horrible amount of noise coming from the rc client..

Bad Idea.

Maybe a popup that comes from RC like how someone logs on MSN? Showing who is talking to you, mentioning your name, or directly saying a command that reminds you that he needs to talk to you directly.

PMs exist for PMing. If Blobz abuses his /honk priveleges, they should be removed and his access to RC should be reevaluated.

Alright the RC "honk" is cleared up.. What if a player is PMing you.. (massive spamming), how in the world can you stand the continious beeping of the rc client..

No that isn't for players, but a command in the RC Chat for staff.

Anyway, I think the sound notification is okay if you want it for Chat or PMs, but make it an option for both, one, or none.

Icon Animations are better in my opinion, and make the option the same as above.

I dont know about you guys, but I find those msn alerts very annoying, because the popup a lot, and screws up my fullscreen games, even tho its supposed to not happen while i have a full screen program up, but w/e... maybe its a msn issue and something graal will accomplish flawlessly. who knows.

Yeh, RC would ideally have a Group option for PM sounds. General PMs don't make a "Uh-oh!", but Buddy and Staff do or would or "could be set to".
