Most cartoons arn't done on a computer most of em are hand done. I do agree that pillow shading can give more texture but like I said it doesn't transition well on metal. If youv ever sceen animia most of it is from one coler to the next. Dithering is mainly used to get away from making new colers. It's like getting 3 globs of paint and instead of mixing them just using them.
