May I ask why it does that? :P Seems interesting.

It works if I disable HTML (freezes if it's turned on, but no error). I noticed if I rename it back to Graal4 it still works.

Yeah, renaming works fine but I'm unable to download things like the level editor, RC, so I'm guessing "Upgrade packages" doesn't work. Oh and graphics aren't saving either

Vista is caching the programs so it will work even if you delete some files, but the cache is probably cleared after some minutes/hours. That feature was existing in Mac OSX for a long time, although I don't really like it (Vista often displays multiple versions of the same folder when I rename it x-x)

About player list: in the next Graal version it will be optionable to use in-game player list (scripted playerlist) and in-game PMs. On Vista it will use in-game PMs by default.

About saving files: Vista is shading the Graal folder into the users AppData folder if you install it in Program Files as administrator and then start it as user, normally that should work fine. If there are problems with that then better install it into a folder which is writable for you. Eventually Graal could also use a separate user folder for downloaded files like it is doing on Linux/Mac (will be optionable).

I've gotten graal working just by taking away the 4 in the name, but get other odd problems while running it. For example, the Kingdoms menu glitches up and looks like static, the login menu turns partially black, etc. Haven't experienced the PM bug yet.

I will report bugs here as I find them. As of right now, though, I'm trying to find proper sound drivers.

It was not starting at all before? The screenshot looks like there are no graphics / couldn't download or save them.

There are a lot of graphical glitches like that one, with a lot of errors saying "Problem locking DirectX surface for writing" in the F2 window. Graphics work properly in OpenGL mode, but it's noticeably slower (OpenGL isn't well supported by most drivers yet). I get stuff like what you see in the screenshot below, and also strange graphical corruption (like cars on Era showing distorted bombs from spites.png)

edit: added Era screenshot

I tried to log on before, and I got the same errors, more errors etc..

Then I tried an hour later, logged onto Delteria and received no problems at all, it's totally random.

The name change seemed to work for me. I just took out the 4 in the .exe name. But I'm having problems with my graphics. On every server, the animated flowers keep flashing and causing a lot of lag.

**UPDATE
It just crashed out of random so the name changing thing didn't work, i guess :o

Sometimes it doesn't crash at all, it's just stuck as an invisible process.

It can sometimes freeze when an external program is started (e.g. a link a PM). The problems with the tiles might be the same problem like with the classic bodies sometimes not being drawn correctly, will try to fix that soon.

Hmmm I am wondering if the new Nvidia driver is fixing some problems may be? They have just released the first non-beta driver two days ago.

A small Idea

Maybe you can try configuring the file so the compatibility for it can run as a Windows XP Service Pack 2 module?

You mean right click on the program .exe and choose Windows Service Pack 2? Nah, it's already been tested I think.

I have had no freezing issues but, I do have graphical glitches and an error while exiting Graal, I have to end it with task manager, the graphics drivers are up-to-date, but this is a laptop, nVidia GeForce Go 6150, Vista 32 Bit.

I just bought the Vista Home Premium upgrade... is it worth installing it even though Graal has some bugs? I'm really excited to have it, but I want to actually be able to play Graal with it.

Yeah I have Home Premium also and I love it. But I've talked to someone who has the same Vista and Graal Online runs fine for him. I don't get it.

Well I installed it... god or allah or the jewish god has granted me mercy. My Graal and RC work perfectly fine. The only bug is with any of the movable or animated tiles (bushes, rocks, signs, flowers etc.) As for the random closing of Graal, that only happened once so far.

Concerning XP: This happened on a fresh OS install, so there were literally no other programs installed. Tried deleting the Graal folder and reinstalling to no avail.

The screenshots below are from XP and vista. XP screen shots have clouds around the program, and vista is the blackened boxes on the login screen.

Well I've managed to get Graalonline to run on Vista. It runs just fine in Windowed Mode. I still have animation problems with flowers and such.

The flower problem should be possible to fix, need to check if it's happening to me too. On what gfx card does that happen?

Houdini: the screenshots you have made on XP are bugged because there is no gfx card driver installed, so Direct3D is running in software mode.

It happens on my ATi Radeon 9800 Pro. The use of OpenGL mode fixes it and it doesn't crash as often.

The XP shots are running on Virtual PC 2007 and you're right the D3D is disabled, however my vista screenshot is running D3D fine.

Perhaps they're two separate issues, but similar symptoms, but either way vista has issues drawing too
