Development Poll [Spell System]

Im doing a little research into an idea i have.

1) is drawing a certain shape to create a spell, for example, drawing a circle around yourself would create a devil circle around you.

2) basic click and hotkeys.

The drawing idea is cool but...you'd be hard pressed to make it heaps accurate. I've always loved Black and White's gesture system but hotkeys may be more suitable for Graal.

Hm yea you may be right. I was also thinking the ups for hotkeys basic click is its alot easier to click and flick back to battle.

i chose hotkey but i think some kind of key-combo (like Sabin's Blitz system from Final Fantasy 6) would be cool

It was first seen in the first Harry Potter game though.

I agree with Crono, I think a key-combo system would be really neat...Maybe like a key combination shows on the screen and you have like 2 seconds to type it in and activate the spell?

combo system for spells, if you wanna lame with magic go ahead but you gotta do something to cast...=o

Oo That might be a good idea for something like rare rage spells, you add stats points to your rage bar. And when you randomly get rage you type in the keys and it does whatever level rage spell your on !

Tom there is that system I thought up along time ago where you have the circle and there are specific points around the circle that you click and then you would click on another side and it creates a line...we could do that or perhaps the Blitz thing (which could be pretty fun) or maybe you have to type out the words or something. But...I agree. If we are going to do this server and it's just going to be about magic we should have something fun to cast it instead of click hotkey, cast spell, click hotkey, cast spell

I said hotkeys... but its really hard to use unless you are going to be using wasd + mouse config for your server. I would also like to see a hotbar or two for spells and skills

Maybe also an auto-attack or using the mouse clicks to attack? Its hard trying to use asd + < ^ > \/ + mouse

Back when I was working on Oasis... I had it so the players could press combos of ZXCV keys for "hand signs" that would perform spells. To cast you'd tap the spacebar and then input the hand gesture combo and tap spacebar again to cast. I think my hand gestures were like... "palm out","point","fist", and "wiggle fingers" or something... So you could do a fireball like:

spacebar V Z spacebar

which translates to

start spell, wiggle fingers, palm out, cast

The character on screen would do an appropriate animation for the hand gestures... (well as good as you can do with stubs for hands)
