look at the wood on the house where the perspective is totally ****ed, the style is both continued on the wood and the stone things that are sticking out....I think he lowered the contrast of the bricks of the house to make them less like the stone texture.

It's only 186 colours, what are you talking about? My monitor can display 16.2 million colours.

Hey, yeah, you totally succeeded in removing all the detail and changing the style of the image altogether. But hey, atleast it's only 21 colours.

I had a shot at it and managed to get the whole image down to only 15 colours (after removing the character sprite). But I don't really see any point since it changes almost nothing. If you want to try using a limited palette as a personal challenge then that's up to you, but that doesn't mean everybody else has to conform aswell. Some people are actually just trying to make game graphics.

Not really.

The difference between a 200x390 .png with 15 colours (28KB) and a 200x390 .png with 80567 colours (32KB) is 4KB.

Same dimensions and colour count but in .gif format is (24KB) and (40KB) respectively.

Either way each image should take about 1 second to download on a basic broadband/cable/dsl connection. On dial-up the difference would be 1-2 seconds at the most.

And this is overstating the difference because I screenshotted the palette and resized it for the colour-loaded image, whereas the other image is mostly white.

Either way, format has more of an effect on file size than colour count does.

I really dont think the ammount of colors matters, I wanted it to look as realistic as possible, hence all the colors and detail..By lowering the color count your taking away from my style AND my detailing. and Btw, everything you see in that image was made pixel by pixel. Nothing was copied/pasted or anything like that.

The top of the cage thingy was horizontally flipped at the middle :]
Also, the wooden stuff at the bottem of the cage thingy and half of the roof of the house were copied.

Edit: My bad I forgot the bricks and the stairs.

I dont think Elk meant if you have less colours it makes it better. Although alot of professional artists on forums do try and keep them low. So thats where hes picked up on it.

But i think hes trying to show that it can look just as good without using to many colours, and by using less colours more effectively it can look loads better.

Anyways sage bro, on the window part you forgot some of the perspective stuff. Like the face on side of the ^ triangle bit :o

But its looking great dude Keep going!

Now that I look at it more, I'm not sure I like how the cage is put up in front of it, like, the way it's connected?

I'm not a GAT but I would have put it in front of a solid brick wall kind of thing, and have it look like this cage thing is coming off the wall rather than in that little crevice, if that makes any sense o_O

I dont know what you mean by "rather than in the little crevice", but if I showed you the house without the "cage" it actually is infront of a brick wall, and just to let you guys know, its not a cage, its dome window, I just havnt done the window effect for it yet. These tiles are still just a WIP, I appreciate all the pointers you are giving me and I will take initiative on them.

It kinda looks like you were trying to make a grainy looking type texture but all in all the texture is pretty well..not good IMO. I think the lineart is pretty good even though the proportions look wrong in some places. Pretty good though.

I think the biggest mistake I notice with a lot of the art around here is the fact that everything in the image seems to use the same type of texture. For example wouldnt wood have a different texture than metal?

I mean like, the way you have the two pillars beside the window, and then theres that white space in between the wall and the structure, I'd have just closed that in completely so it looks like the structure comes off the wall.
