Ubuntu 6.10

I installed Ubuntu 6.10 and when i try to run graal, i get this:

PHP Code:
user@user-desktop:~$ graal
X Error of failed request
:  BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)

Major opcode of failed request:  142 (GLX)

Minor opcode of failed request:  (X_GLXCreateContext)

Serial number of failed request:  14
Current serial number in output stream
:  15
Same error when i try to use glxinfo and fglrxinfo just changed numbers. Glxgears worked (very slowly) though .

I've had (and am having) a fair amount of errors with this comp but Graal was running fine (but slowly: no direct rendering) with 6.06. Anyone had this problem and know of a solution. I tried checking the ubuntu forums but everyone seems to have the problem but with no solution.

Specs:
PHP Code:
pcchips M868G with SiS 741GX/963L
768mb RAM
(64 mb shared graphics)
amd sempron 2400+
installed not live

Ubuntu Edgy screwed up my graphics drivers as well. I have no idea why, but you should downgrade to 6.06 for the time being (until Ubuntu 7) There will be long term support for Dapper Drake.

The SiS support for Linux is very bad, there is only a hack for some types of SiS cards, I think not for your card. You should be able to start Graal though when you disable DRI support in the xorg configuration. I am not sure if there is a graphical tool to edit it (/etc/X11/xorg.conf section "Module")

Well, i changed my xorg.conf to use generic sis drivers. glxinfo now works and Graal now starts...just without direct rendering. Gonna try some methods to get DRI working. I'll post success / failure .

Hopefully i'm not doomed to having no direct rendering...too poor to get a new graphics card at the moment
