Couldn't the armors have like the same total amount of positive buffs and different graphics?

If they have all have different buffs, people would just pick the best one and disregard all the others. If you made a str+2 shield and a int+2 shield, more people would use the str+2 shield and thus, unequal items. Why? Because not all stats are equally useful.
