Because the tones (dark/light) within are all so similiar it's VERY hard to read (visually).

And well, I guess the basic look is there, but I'm not really a fan of the "I need shading scribblescribblescribble" school of coloring. Makes it look too messy.

The 'do it better yourself' thing is faulty. If someone does do it better, then you've been schooled, and there's not much you can do against it.

It's a nice sketch of a character, if you like that style of shading, sort of cross hatch. Maybe do more cross hatching in the darker areas, give it more shape

But nice character.
