RC2 can be customized even better, you can have transparent buttons. Also you can change the general look by configuring the GTK theme.
About Linux: On linux you can customize the look of the desktop a lot, I don't think you have "one" Linux look

Please tell us how to change the general look, the default is just ugly to be blunt.
