We are eventually going to create custom bodies, but we are more worried about the scripting/leveling aspects of the server. The bodies will take a pretty long time to create, therefore we are going to wait for them and get more tiles/weapons done.

Excuse me? I'm not sure if you have noticed, but all he posted was two screenshots. He did not provide us a description of his server, and let us know what makes it different from every other server. I don't see a storyline either. So until I see anything other than these two screenshots, don't question my judgements.

Why not reply to people who made intelligent comments?
Did you even log on to the server to better judge it?

Personally, I've been on the server multiple times. I think they've got a really good development team put together and they can pull something original off. Especially with Madj's GFX skills. Keep up the good work guys. I hope to eventually see this server go hosted.

Tom...In a way, I resent that remark you made about Icarus and Atrius being on the same track, in a way, you made the same mistake that Kronan made on the previous page by blaintly judging us on pictures, but you havn't the slightest clue on the storyline or what we're doing with the server. I mean yes the tiles do look alot like Atrius' because like Dro said they were made by the same person...But if you've been on the server you will see that madj has a brand new perspective for his graphics which makes them alot nicer than his previous graphic entries on Atrius. But, for those of you who wished us luck, I thank you very much and we will do our best to bring about a nice Modern server and give Era some competition.

Alright Ima start off by saying I like the grass and the sand. and then Ima say if your gonna try and do this type of server atleast do a different building style that doesnt look like Era and the others. I meen refine the looks and make it look better. gosh I tired of seeing the same crap.

We are in early stages of developement, we don't have that much of a good ammount to offer. Yes, he only gave 2 screenshots, but once the server reaches new stages, Madj will probably update this thread.
The least you could of done was give us a good luck.

By the way, Atrius is going nowhere in my opinion. The staff team is badly put together, some people from Atrius came to Icarus to work because Atrius was getting out of hand. So no, they both arn't on the same track.

Everyone's *****ing about people making judgements based on pictures. Well guess what? You only posted a few pictures. People will naturally MAKE A JUDGEMENT BASED ON WHAT YOU SHOW. YOU YOURSELF DID NOT SHOW US ENOUGH MATERIAL FOR US TO MAKE A -FAIR- JUDGEMENT ON SO WE MADE A HALF-ASS JUDGEMENT ON IT. Whether you give us a lot of info or a little info is irrelevant because people in the end will still make judgements. So shove it.

Oi. He did not judge it, he gave his opinion of what he saw from the playerworld, and asked someone to provide him more information so he could judge it.

Besides, not everyone has the possibility of logging on a private server.

He did even more; he gave constructive criticism in the form of a question, but apparently the developers of the server either think there's no need for criticism, are completely bend on political correctness (guess what? this is a forum, not the parliament), or are too immature to accept someone else's opinion. The impression I got that only people affilitiated with Atrius immediately went for Kronan after he posted something that doubted their originality, and encouraged them to provide something more daring, is probably the closest to what happened. Look at what Crono posted; he seems to be the only one with the guts to say something negative after the attack of Vulcan and Atrius dev. staff.

Sum41 is a worthless band anyways.

Era (to my knownledge) is the only successful one. If people can make a successful modern server without thieving from others then by all means let them.

Now-a-days people make new tilesets like that so they can make crappy levels look good because it looks different.
If you look at the level and then picture that without new tiles, it's badly put together and shows no level skill, except that said person knows where some tiles are to right click.

I didn't log on the server, I havn't had time, but just by the screenshots I'd have to say it looks like another Era remake, I'm not going to pass judgement untill I log on it tomorrow or so.
If what Vulcan* said was right and they do have a really good development team, then good luck to you guys, lots of servers fail, I hope to see someone combat Era in a modern-style playerworld.

2. If someone wanted to make a new playerworld, and decided to use the default tiles instead of making his/her own, are you people going to say that it's just another classic server?

@ Deek2 - Yeah, another one of these servers. You need to realize that just because Era was the first modern server, doesn't mean it has to be the only. Not to mention Era is a pile of crap right now, ever since Jenn was chosen Manager.

@ Rick - Era is the only successful one, why? Just take a look at this thread. As you said, everyone is whining more about how it is just a clone. By the way, people have already made attempts to steal content from us. Not only does it show that people can't develop there own content themselves, but it means that we are probably the best out of Atrius, Atrian City, Sacred, the list goes on.

@ Gerami - Ok, first off, calm down. There is no need to curse right now. I can't really explain differences, lol, Atrius just sucks, no questions asked. Their dev team blows.

The only reason Icarus looks bad is because people are used to Era's tileset, not anyone else's.

If someone chooses to make a playerworld with Graal's default tileset, it's not the same as doing all that work to hire someone to make a crappy tileset. (Not saying your tileset is crappy).

If you can make a good level with the pics1.png tileset it shows you have some serious skill. It's not easy to do that. But if you make a level with your tileset, someone can probably throw it together in like 5 minutes without putting any effort into it. The way I see making a modern style server is the way for unskilled level designers to make their own server.

Yeah, I'll admit that I can't make that good of a level with the classic tileset, but I can make a good "modern" one. I won't deny it.
Yeah, I know a lot of people don't put effort into their levels. We have hired a lot of trial (well I hope they're trial) LATs and so far and all of them suck. So far their are only 2 good levelers that work here. If we can get more and better LATs then the server can look good.
If the level looks good, there should be no problem.

I don't care wether or not Era is the only modern server that's in the list right now. I'm talking about reinventing the wheel. The lack of creativity most of these modern projects put off. It's just practically a reflection of modern day life. So what? Where's the fun in that? The only difference I can see here is that I can actually physically hurt people for being stupid.
