v4 is created from scratch in a whole new programming language, and is more likely than not the most 'new' graal release ever.

Maybe it is because people think they know everything.
Or it could be because I hate people.

I'm still confused why you went back to Delphi; Graal v3 seemed perfectly fine to me, but since I don't know the specifics, I guess I'm missing something. To me there seemed to be much more problems with v4 than with v3 (especially fonts - and I don't think Bitmap fonts are a step into the right direction).
Again, I might just be missing something there, but it'd be nice to know.

All you need to understand is that C++ makes it more portable and should make the game generally faster.

If there are things missing in V4, things like that tend to happen when there is a complete rewrite. It will take time for ALL of the features from previus versions to make their way back in.

I can't use v4 since I'm not VIP (and don't plan to be; why pay money to be a beta tester?) but if you don't notice performance boosts, then at least you should once Stefan works all the wrinkles out of the code.

In Graal v4 the interface is written in Delphi. Advantages:
- More compatible - people that use v2 will not have problems with v4
- External playerlist and option window (it might be possible sometime to allow scripted external windows but this will take time).

I think the point that Fry is getting at is that moving back to Delphi was a bad idea.
Graal 3 has always been so much faster for me, and Graal 4 just doesn't perform as well.

The other thing with Graal 4 is the lack of OpenGL. What happened to that?

He said the interface was written in delphi, not the game engine itself (which should be as fast as 3.0)

Well, yes, I guess not having to fight with the Windows API to integrate external windows is a good reason. Okay. But why were there such big problems with TTF that Bitmap fonts needed to be used? Did Torque or v3 display Bitmap fonts too?

Should, yes, but isn't; I don't think DDraw7 was such a good choice. But lets wait until it's finished.

But you are using some Delphi stuff in it too, are you not?

So the whole v4 client would then not be totally rewritten from scratch in C++ (though most of it would be).

I am just arguing semantics here.
