Need help :(((

I don't know if anyone else has gone through this (not from what I've read), but my regular 2.x client is going through some problems. Whenever I'm around 1 person or more it lags (transfer, not video lag, I run smoothly) and eventually disconnects my modem, it literally kills my connection, and I have no idea what to do... I've played with the options, but maybe I'm doing something wrong. I do not experience this problem using Graal 3.x, but it's a huge inconvenience, I had to quit GC because of it (note this did not happen on my old PC, I am on a laptop right now.). The modem hardware I use is Agere Systems AC'97. The drivers are all updated. Someone please lend me a hand!

Sounds to me you have severeal issues i can think of, but not knowing all of your details about your PC and connection, here is a quick idea untill i am told about your details.

First it's most likely your graal client, and you have some options checked, or unchecked that you shouldn't.

Press f1 genereal options, click genereal tab:

Ignore toalls- retarded, just keep it checked.
don't save pass- up to you, but i have it unchecked.
use file cache- i have it unchechecked, but if you have it checked, i think it takes logner for graal to load, or vice versa.
use fixed port- i think this is for firewalls, but i would keep it unchecked.
don't use udp- keep it unchecked, it gives you delay +10 sec, but if you can't see anyone move, than check it.
don't load player heads- having this checked will speed you up dramaticly, it doesn't load specific heads that the server people are all wearing have it checked.
Limit nicknames- i suggest having this set to 45-50, and keep it checked.
don't connect levels- keep this checked, unless you play servers like GK and you just spar, and pk i'd keep this checked.

I hope this helped, just post agian if you need further help, i have some other ideas, but for now i want to get your information on your pc and connection.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!

Yeah I've played around with all of that... as for the specifications you need, which ones do you want? I don't think it has much to do with RAM or Video Card/Chipset, since it's just the ping. As I had previously mentioned, my modem is an Agere Systems AC'97 Modem, all drivers updated. Thanks for the suggestions, Link.

I re-read your post, and if you are slower in more populated areas, it is caused by as follows:
Your computer, you do not have enough ram to run your computer properly, secondly your computer is too low of mhz//ghz, if your pc is not in the ghz that already explains it. And using dial up as internet is also another form of how you are slower in more populated areas.

Well I'd mentioned this before, but my PC is just fine, I'm a tech man myself, but no expert on troubleshooting issues like this. My RAM is just peachy running at 512MB, so is my Ahtl 64 3000+ (I know it's not the bomb, but it pays the bills), I have an nvidia geforce4 chipset (again, not the bomb, but what can you do). So my laptop is more than equipped for graal, this is why I've concluded that the only problem could be the internet connection. As for my lag, it's not fram skipping or anything that would imply video lag, it is just the ping between my client and the server that is abruptly stopped or accelerated, then dropped.

Ibonic will become famous soon enough
I've actually had this problem on 2.3 also, but I'm using a LAN connection with 20 Mbps throughput to the internet. It happens most often when the "it seems player movements are not being received" dialog comes up, but that usually goes away after I stop using the UDP option. Guessing you already tried changing that, but I'm saying this anyway because I find it odd that Graal occasionally brings my connection to a halt; It's fine again if I close Graal or just 'wait it out'.

AMD athlon 64 opererating at 3 ghz is pretty good PC. the ram you should get a gig of though, the 64 bit transfers emmory 4x faster as it stated on the amd spec webapge. Knowing all of your pc specs bassicly, it has to be your internet. I suggest calling them and stating you have a problem with their connection. Unless it is just graal than nevermind this. but if it is downloading, and graal and websites that are slow, i suggest calling the internet connection company. how are you telling your ping on graal? the alt 4? i've heard that isn't the ping, but i get high numbers in that too in the 100's and i am on amd athlon operates at 2ghz gig ram 128 video and on cable, i got a really good connection 626 transfer rate. anyway you could have adware too, adware works behind your task manager to which you cannot see and it takes up bandwith and pc performance as well.

SW, you have 56k right?

I suggest that you get off of 56k.

Note, 1 GB of RAM is far far FAR more than Graal needs.

Also, if you're running behind a router, holler at me and I'll help you out.

Not always... He could be one of the people that have a lot of programs open at one time, and he can't touch them because it's not his computer.. For just plain graal, yes. But In such cases as the one i just stated, it's needed.
