Instead of using the transition tiles that you are using for it, I suggest making new tiles that will make the transition to the beach. On most beaches, the grass just slowly fades to all sand. I think you should make the transition tiles like the dirt/water ones all the way to the right of the tileset, on the bottom.

I think the shade is fine, maybe a bit darker, but if it is too dark, it won't look like sand. I do agree that new tiles should be put into place because, heh, you don't sit on dirt at a beach.
