It would probably not be good to change the current planet-selection too much, because an easy interface is always good, but such a space world could be interesting as a mission or as a connection to missions, like you need to travel to places where you need to do special objectives (get into the enemy base and steal some document, or kill the huge alien bugs who have terrorized a planet).
