Can any of the artists in here give a clear cut explanation on how this guy creates these illusions? I have a couple theories of how..but I think I'm way off-base.

Well he digs a hole right... puts dead bodies in them and such... then throws a small layer of chalk on them.

It all has to do with perspective, and the angle of the shot, if you were to look at that from a different perspective, it would look like a flat painting, however, from that perspective, it looks like the painting is interacting with the real world.

Kind of simple to do, those are awesome though with all that detail

I'm thinking that if you looked at it from straight above, it would look really strange. Things are probably proportioned as such so it only looks correct from one viewpoint.

Yea, the farther away from the shot on the picture is from the ground, the larger he draws it. That long leg in that one picture probably actually slants outward a little till it gets to the foot.

Also on the first few pictures, if you look closely you will be able to see that the photo themselves are not true to life, along the edges of the first few pictures you can tell that the image bubbles out in the center.

Yeah, I noticed the bubble effect added to enhance the effect of the 3d-ness. Pretty awesome work by that guy.

I think if you looked at it from the absolute opposite then it would look like it would pop out/in (opposite of it's intentions)

Like if you looked at the fountain from the other side it might look like it's a hole in the ground and everyone is upside down.
