There is a gain or purpose to every language, otherwise it...wouldn't exist.

It might not be in your personal interest to learn it, but for someone else it could be entirely practical.

How I see it:

Languages can't be crappy or amazing. They just are. Depending on the society that surrounds that language, they can be practical, or not. If you're in a place where everyone speaks English, why would you go out of your way to learn chinese? It is completely impractical in the situation. Chinese language does have a purpose, but it doesn't apply to particular situations.
