First body

This is my first attempt to try to make a body. Basically my first real graphic to try hard on. I am trying really hard to learn graphics because I know I am never going to find someone who can get the images out of my head better than I can, and I figure I better try to learn so I can eventually make my own server (considering the only development area I lack in is the graphical one).

Well, here it is.

I posted this for suggestions, comments, and good ole' fasion criticism. I do want to get better, so help me.

Find a mirror, walk towards it.
Watch the way your body moves as you walk.
The chest should not be completely still.
The legs should move much more than that.
It was a nice attempt so far, my best advice is to just take a look at how the different parts of your body move as you walk.

Rated R for Nudity! :P

Err...ahem...I mean....It's a better view of movement, though it seems a little jerky. It could just be a consequence of the gif file though, so that can't be held against you.

dude, yeah it's a bit rigid. It moves like frankenstein
My advice, since i'm a rookie graphics person too, would be to start small. Ie, not trying to do complicated stuff like animated bodies and stuff quite yet.
I'm still finding small still images quite tricky sometimes, and animations of them harder still, so, yeah, don't be put off if you can't do something as complex as a moving body yet

*sigh*, I know I'll get flamed for saying this, but its the truth.

If you want to learn how to make graphics, do NOT use ms paint.

Get yourself a freaking scanner (or a wacom tablet mouse), learn to draw by hand, and download the GIMP. (that stands for Gnu Image Manipulation Program).

www.gimp.org
They even have a windows version, and good documentation.

Also, since alpha blending in pngs will be added for v3, it makes drawn sprites even more efficient than before.

As everyone says make the upper body move, also body looks a little wide for the arms.

There dont appear to be shoulders, you have to have a more smooth transition into the arms, everything moving is sequence, its tough just keep trying.

Yes you probably will get flamed. Why the hell do you not think that MSpaint is good for graphics? Just because it lacks crappy little automated effects like embossment and stuff that PSP etc have, doesn't mean you can't spin out the most awesome stuff ever on it. I mean wtfs, have you never looked on these forums? Half the stuff on them was made in MSpaint or similar simple programs, and it all looks awesome. I'm learning gfx in mspaint, and im doing pretty well. MSpaint = good. You can't deny it, you just goddamned well can't. In fact, MSpaint probably can't be beaten when it comes to doing pixel art o_o

Only thing I dislike about s paint is the zoom levels, I tend to zoom at like 100 different levels on psp but in paint you can only do so much

Wow you really jumped on him there, man. Lil too tense o_o
He never said it was a bad program, he said scanning and going off of your hand made sketches works better for learning how. And I must say, I do love using scans it makes things so much easier and quicker

Photoshop = greater organization than MSPaint...

<3 layers

But MSPaint = better line / basic shape tools for pixels than Photoshop

Haha, I know, I hate that too. I found out something weird though... on the WinXP version of MS Paint, there's a hidden 10x (maybe 12x) zoom. If you use the zoom tool and click below the 8x at a certain y coordinate, it zooms even further.

8x:

10x (or 12...):

Weird, huh? :P

Oh, here's an image that shows you exactly where you have to click:

Yes, a very fine trick. I think MSPaint is way outdated, It should be updated to fit the everyday pixel artist needs, like layering and stuff. (NOT filters though)

Plus, Adobe Photoshop is bound to be crippled for Pixel Art, since its for photo editting, hence Photoshop
