Hey guys, How about a progress update and current staff list?
Soon as I see some action I'm back in the game, don't let me down, lets turn 2k1 into something real again.

Maybe we're asking too much out of Graal2001. It has already given us so much... if anything has ever lived out its potential in full glory, it is this server anyway. It has burnt up like a star.

What we would give to see it again. The most amazing part of the previous revivals of the server is that you always see some long lost regulars.

To say it is not capable of capturing people's hearts, patience, and time again would be foolish. What I am saying is that it will most certainly live in our memories.

Graal2001 is definitely something I won't ever forget, personally. It is a very important imaginary place in my mind, and I don't think I could change that if I wanted to.

I would also like to add that I definitely still consider it the best game I've ever played, directly above Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tetris on my list.

I agree with the other posts that say its amazing how when a revival starts magically old players from Graal 2001 start to come out of the wood work. Stefan should notice this also and learn from it. He needs to develop servers (like he developed Graal 2001 at first) and then keep them up and running. Imagine the player base he would have if Graal 2001 was still up and running smoothly like it did in its prime days. If you want to make money Stefan, when a server is doing well and has a strong player base, do not allow it to disappear.

This post is full of WIN. I don't know why it wouldn't still be around today even if it wasn't popular anymore like (insert your favorite online server to hate here -- not to be rude all servers have my love).

It always happens. Classic started dying when Stefan went and made 2k1(though this could be because of p2p...), then 2k1 died when Stefan went and started on 2k2. Now it seems Kingdoms has been dying since Stefan left it and went to Zone.

They all do really well until they suddenly die because Stefan abandons them completely and goes on to another project.

Yeah. I tried to talk to Rufus about getting in on helping.

It's just that I pmed him like two months ago and I'm starting to feel less enthusiastic about the prospect of working on the project again. Rufus, is your box just way full or is there no actual progress currently?

Rufus is currently banned from the forums and has been for a couple months now. Probably why you've not noticed him commenting on other threads. Try hunting him down on a server somewhere and I'm sure he'll be happy to give you an update.

This will be the greatest thing ever and worth the wait and my opinion is not based on the fact that 75% of my PMs with Rufus involve him telling me to suck up to his work on the forums.

Well I am hoping something comes out of this work that has been going on forever. Havent played Graal much at all since Graal 2001 disappeared, but I would return if the server did come back.

so in how many years will the server be released?

followup; when did the staff think it was acceptable to put off the server's release for x years

I'm afraid if you're looking for screenshots then you're probably not going to see any for a while. I think continuing Konidias' way of hyping up the server would only lead to disappointment in the end. That isn't to say that screenshots wouldn't be released and I have something in mind, just not yet.

That'd be when I opened my eyes to the actual lack of decent developers. The huge extent of what needs to be done to ensure a popular and suitable re-release of a server that had a huge amount of flaws and inconsistencies in every single release it has had to date isn't really helping either. Then of course we have the fact that the staff do not get paid, do work for a company that is unappreciative and provide no support at all, whilst battling with a lack of motivation due to *******s like yourself who don't even care nor help, but seem to like attempting to stir the pot.

I know that this server is taking too long to get done, and believe me if there was someone else who wanted to try and tackle this beast who actually understood what is needed for a revivial and could just pop it out then I would gladly pass it over. Good luck with that though, because I've tried to find that person myself.

I'm not sure who it is that has the scripting capabilities mixed with people managing skills needed to get your project done..

But I do know that I've been interested in helping with whatever possible for months now.

I also know that there are a lot of people who still feel strongly about the server, and that it would easily be able to garner more success than the rest of Graal if released with the right timing. Think about it, last time Graal2001 was revived--all of the other servers weren't nearly as bad as they are now.

The point is, this game has gone down hill. I see it now as a interactive AIM with mini games involved. There isnt that feel of guilds competing against one another, the RP of past kingdoms who formed alliances and had enemies. The greatest era graal has ever seen was from around 2001-2003. When graal2001 was shifted into Graal Kingdoms, this game died. Era was actually a very good server to play on after the fact that you had to have a gold subscription to play on Kingdoms. But since era has become even worse and will never be the same again. I would say it would be in the best interest of Graal to bring back all of the old levels all of the original ET games. Bring it back to what it was always known for and what it has always stood for.

I agree the game has gone downhill, and so has the drive of most of the people that have worked on this project. Due to the game going downhill talented developers such as Konidias, Dusty, and a lot of people who the server has depended upon are all just moving on. I'm not battling against the owners of the game in order to get them to start appreciating developers more, just so I can develop a server for them. This is supposed to be a hobby not a chore, but I can't change that until the game starts to get a grip in general and appreciates what it has.

G2k1 what.
it went down hill when graal 2002 or graal kingdoms came out because it was newer and the mass majority of people wanted this new thing. Just like how people left the NES for the SNES. but there is still quite a seizable group that prefers NES over SNES aka G2K1 over G2k2

anyways it probably started sucking when i stopped working there ;]

Graal2001 was really Graal's big success... if Cyberjoueurs as a company had focused on this idea it wouldn't have turned up such a failure. There is no evidence supporting the idea that Graal2001 doesn't work fantastically as an MMO (supporting it is the fact that it was successful and cost players money simultaneously).

It was certainly Graal2002/Kingdoms that made people move on to the next thing..

And further on this point, I don't believe Konidias, Dusty, or any specific developer is absolutely necessary to develop the server, because this was never the truth. Graal2001 has been created eclectically by many developers. Some are very important... and others came in with ideas that were so crucially important (Antago with Bomys, for example) who did not provide necessary development skill.

Players have more to do with it than anything. Every single time Graal2001 has been re-released, 300+ players showed up for it. They stuck around for weeks and even months each time, as well. Lance simply did not have the scripting help to continue fixing bugs while coming up with weekly and daily updates. It was a very dramatic time for the few scripters we had.

When it comes down to it, Graal2001 is a recipe for success. If the manager is pessimistic about this fact, he will only learn later on what the possibilities are and in what realm of plausible success the design of the game lies.

I always hope a sort of optimism rises about this server because I know it will not be forgotten by any of the players that enjoyed it.
