You actually gave the definition of the word 'detract'. If you try really hard, you may be able to extrapolate from there and figure out what a detractor is.

Because if I used more blatant words/phrases then it would change the meaning.

I used it generally. Sort of like saying how Kai is more intelligent then Gambet. It wasnt direct as in saying the people less intelligent then me, but the less intelligent bunch of players compared to others.

You should probably use the word 'unintelligent', then. But it doesn't make a difference; unless you rate yourself as having below average intelligence, you are still placing yourself above him.

In any case, the implication was that he was wrong because he is relatively unintelligent. This is fallacious reasoning.

I said I figured you'd be an English teacher. That doesn't mean that I only believe that students study English to become a teacher. It was only an assumption.
