Graal's Servers
I'm just wondering what kind of server is Graal using because it can't even handle over 150+ players and lags starting at 90+ players.
Now, I don't know much about how much it can cost to maintain a server but shouldn't Graal get better servers or atleast run on dedicated servers. That would be awesome. |
They're shared servers, several worlds on one server if my intel's right. If the NPCServer calls are done right, that's plenty; most lag is between the player and the server, not between the server and itself. If Unixmad were to cut the number of worlds per server in half, it would cost twice as much to run.

I'm a complete n00b but I don't think the servers aren't configured to run like 200 players on one server because its not even needed... |

Well, I'm not demanding new servers it's just I got a GOOD computer that is above Graal's Max requirements and I shouldn't be lagging like this.. I just want it in the future where a lot of players can join a server and not experience lag :P

I believe some of the phsyical servers are stronger than others. Popular servers get moved to the stronger servers. The server UN is on probably has less other gservers on it compared to others.

It has everything to do with serverside calls. A server with few can handle more people. That's about the pace of things.
|
I wish Stefan can fix this. Most game servers can handle like 300+ :(
|
The lag is not really related to the number of players slowing down the machine, when there is lag then its probably some network routing problem. When servers are released it is a different problem, because many people need to download new files at once, but those things have been optimized a few months ago.
|
I would also say file sizes for graphics, music, and the ammount of levels on the server. But this would come 3rd to Stefan and Tyhm's answers :)
|
Great way to minimize lag, require people to download the packs (from a different server) first. Lah.

Aren't the GServers and NPC Servers on different machines? (Serversize npc cpu usage shouldn't slow down file transfers and vise-versa.)
