Graal's Servers

I'm just wondering what kind of server is Graal using because it can't even handle over 150+ players and lags starting at 90+ players.

Now, I don't know much about how much it can cost to maintain a server but shouldn't Graal get better servers or atleast run on dedicated servers. That would be awesome.

They're shared servers, several worlds on one server if my intel's right. If the NPCServer calls are done right, that's plenty; most lag is between the player and the server, not between the server and itself. If Unixmad were to cut the number of worlds per server in half, it would cost twice as much to run.

The servers are fine.

I'm a complete n00b but I don't think the servers aren't configured to run like 200 players on one server because its not even needed...

Thats a waste of money, Its better off running virtual servers, or running multiple servers on one server for a thing like Graal, The servers are dedicated but I think recently their has been alot of lag issues being caused by a backup issue and alot of servers are being shuffled so that may fix it.

Well, I'm not demanding new servers it's just I got a GOOD computer that is above Graal's Max requirements and I shouldn't be lagging like this.. I just want it in the future where a lot of players can join a server and not experience lag :P

In some release note somewhere I read that the server supported around 1000 players at once. I think that was a bit exaggerating but around 400 should be do-able!

Shaded Legend had like 170 players when it was released and lagged like HELL, but UN can easily handle 130 players without problems. I think some are just stronger than the others or something?

Maniaman 06-29-2007 04:17 PM

I believe some of the phsyical servers are stronger than others. Popular servers get moved to the stronger servers. The server UN is on probably has less other gservers on it compared to others.

Tyhm 06-29-2007 08:08 PM

It has everything to do with serverside calls. A server with few can handle more people. That's about the pace of things.

ArushenP2P 06-29-2007 08:27 PM

I wish Stefan can fix this. Most game servers can handle like 300+ :(

Admins 06-29-2007 09:27 PM

The lag is not really related to the number of players slowing down the machine, when there is lag then its probably some network routing problem. When servers are released it is a different problem, because many people need to download new files at once, but those things have been optimized a few months ago.

Delta2004 06-29-2007 09:55 PM

I would also say file sizes for graphics, music, and the ammount of levels on the server. But this would come 3rd to Stefan and Tyhm's answers :)

Tyhm 06-30-2007 01:29 AM

Great way to minimize lag, require people to download the packs (from a different server) first. Lah.

zokemon 06-30-2007 01:40 AM

Aren't the GServers and NPC Servers on different machines? (Serversize npc cpu usage shouldn't slow down file transfers and vise-versa.)
