The New 16-Man Invitational Spar Tournament Thread

***Tournament date changed to March 5th (Sunday) at 8:30 PM eastern.***

I'm making this new thread because I'm no longer able to edit my initial post on the other thread, and because there are some important announcements to make.

First off, the tournament is no longer scheduled for March 6th (Monday) at 9 PM eastern. The tournament date has been moved up to March 5th (Sunday) at 8:30 PM eastern on the N-Pulse server, because of scheduling conflicts for multiple invitees. I recommend that all invitees show up at least five minutes before the scheduled start of the tournament, and please don't whine about losing your spot in the tournament if you arrive late and someone has already been substituted for you, because I don't plan to wait long before getting the tournament started.

Secondly, the participants are no longer going to be ranked 1-16. The order of the tournament spars will be chosen randomly prior to the start of the tournament, although I'm not exactly sure how this will be done yet. I'll see if there's some sort of NPC or something that can be made that will randomly display a number between 1-16 for all to see. I'll find some way to randomize the tournament that will be as transparent as possible, one way or the other.

And lastly, there are two new invitees that will take the place of myself and Josh (I haven't seen him in well over a week): Cyclone and Tyrant. If Josh is still around somewhere and decides to show up for the tournament, he'll be the first person chosen as an alternate, and I'll be the second. If more alternates are needed, I'll select someone of my own choosing from among the playerlist on N-Pulse (please don't whine or beg).

Also, be sure to check this thread from time to time, and this post in particular, for updates concerning the tournament.

Below is an updated list of the sixteen sparrers invited to participate in the tournament:

Ares
Brett
Chance
Cyclone
Deophite
Exodus
Halo
Neo Jenova
Pluto
Quick Strike
Squirt
Stella
Thallen
Torrent
Tyrant
Zeldaguardian

If you'd like to contribute towards an event it should be a public event where anyone can participate.

I think you are missing the whole point of this tournament. Maybe you should go back and read Highlanders original post. He also arranged it all on his own and he didnt ask for anything from anyone. Whether or not there will be a prize is up to whoever suggested giving one.

The problem with invitational spars, is that ultimately, it's based on one or a few people's opinion. It's impractical to suggest that those are the 'best 16' sparrers on Graal, and that's no disrespect to any of thier abilities, because quite simply, those making the decisions don't know every singles players current ability. :)

Well like he said, it was based on several things not just who he thought should be in it. Everytime a thread like this is made there are always people who post saying i can beat this guy or that guy. The fact that you can beat one guy doesnt meen anything. To be a good sparrer you need to be consistent. You need to be able to go through tournaments and beat a variety of opponents such as Laggers, Delayers and people with actual skill. The average sparrer cannot do that. That's whats seperates the best sparrers from the good ones who can occasionally get the best of someone on this list. To anyone who posted disagreeing with this list: Instead of complaining that you can beat half the people here, why dont you just prove it and enter tournaments like everyone else and win...if you can. In case you havent noticed in most tourneys on all servers you ussually have the same winners every month week etc.. out of a certain group. And don't use that you didnt enter as an excuse.

This thread of based off opinions no matter what you say. Fact is there is more than 16 good sparers on graal that can be consistent. Infact if you noticed anything a lot of people on the list are just in some lil "click" in which they always seem to spar each other on and off. They are good but I damn well no there is no such thing as the best on graal.

I made it specific in my post that I was not slating those 16 players skill. I made no mention as to whether I can/cannot beat any of them, but either way, that's irrelevant. I was in no way saying that I should be on the list either.

My point is that someone can talk to a few people, get 16 names, put them up in an invitational spar, and many people will assume they are the best 16 (or very close, lets say 16 of the top 32), and that the winner of it is undisputedly the greatest sparrer. People form cliques of spar partners, have favourite servers of which they will experience a greater range of players, and have white whales which will affect thier judgement in choosing these 16. The people listed are probably in the upper few percent in terms of ability, but to say they are the 'best', is not always accurate. In reality, theres probably 100 or more players (and I'd err largely on the more side) who could have been on a list like this. At the end of the day, there very little variation between the top fighters, and its all gonna come down to who's having the luck on the day.

It's was more just an opinion I wanted to get across. As I said before, no disrespect to anyone in that list, they are all great sparrers.
