Guild System
Angel, I was wondering what the status of the guilds are since your now in charge of the website and guilds as a i understand and perhaps you could also fill us in on how soon to expect VIP Forums aswell?
|
I've been doing some mock idea's. I have quite a nice system done but I gotta wait for the papers so that I can start working on it. Im sure YOU understand, hehe. And we (Me and Tyhm) need to talk to Unixmad to see how he wants the forum laid out. We plan on coming out with some new good things for VIP soon. So look forward to that.
|
Thanks for the update angel im sure everyone would benefit from hearing the good news. Have a "GREAT" evening =)

It's so sad when guilds are gone...in my opinion, when guilds aren't working properly, every Graal problem is magnified 1700x, but when guilds ARE working just fine, I'm so entertained with guilds, I forget that there even are problems with Graal. Now I start to think about things like...how alchemy items need fixing on GK, how RPing is bad on GK, etc... Guilds are to me, as a pacifier is to an infant. I need that toy to chew/suck on :(
|
I can't wait for the VIP forums. (drools)

graal without working guilds = not entertaining at all =( Angel, please, before you do anything else on the site, please just add a 'delete member' option to the guild panel, and if you have time, a way to promote/demote members? |

Arg, this kills me =x
I love Angel to death, but I asked Unix to let me do this MONTHS ago, hell I even forum PM'ed him a few weeks back... I never get to talk to him, the ONLY forum PM of mine he's replied to is when it was about him getting money... I figured he might actually READ my PMs (you can check message tracking and it shows read/unread), but he doesn't even show me that courtesy :( I'm sure Angel will do a great job though :) ---Shifter |

Posting this FOR a friend (not account sharing).
** Message Start From Sharki -General- (LOG) It's great that someone is making progress on the GuildCP. I just had one request. If at all possible, could a way of having another site retrieve player accounts and nicknames that are members of a guild via PHP/SQL? All that information is available to the public through the Guild List section, but having a way to access it through scripts would a great aid to guilds that might want to create advanced features on their own guild sites or that would want to have member lists on their own site.. I am working on creating a new member database for LOG, and having the ability to check if a player is officially in the guild would be a great asset. If this is not possible, that is fine. If it is, please do not waste time implementing this before the GuildCP and the rest of the site are finished. ~Sharki -General- (LOG) ** Message End |
The thing where you can see what guilds someone is in would possibly ruin part of the fun in guild espionage... if anyone still does it, thats one of the more fun things with guilds...
|
I sure wouldn't remind a "remove" button. ;o Or at least Hoss wouldn't. Wanting to clear out some of the inactive Baddies.

After readnig a few more posts, I felt a double post was justified, 2 different topics ;)
It is possible to have it get the guild listing and such based on a username/password, but you would have to do your sites in PHP most likely. Something like: NPC Code: Something along those lines might work, because allowing remote access to the database wouldn't be very smart =x ---Shifter |

and it would prevent multiguilding :megaeek: |

Hey I used a quote, i'm so spiffy... but i dont really think multiguilding is that good, you should stick to one guild and fight wars ect. against an enemy guild and stuff, its way more fun that way. |
I hope create a guild will also come out.
We havent been able to create guilds for about 6 months. :( |
I got quite a few things done and ready. Register,Add,remove,Reassign(Promote,Demote),Notes ,Accoucements (Was basically done).
Also whoever said about that remote listing. Should I do it as a option or enabled for all guilds? Input would be nice. Not much work to do it at all.As PS said I could require a password of the leaders chose to given so not just anyone can list. But I want to do a basic version (just HTML) and advanced (PHP). Anyone give some input, |
I think there should also be an option to view a member's stats in a certain server.

errrrrrrrrr. It's called a real only MySQL user.... As I said it would be a password the leader sets. |
You mean you made your own mock-up code which will have to be modified to meet the already existing code of the GuildCP that you dont yet possess so thus your gonna have to redo everything your working on (or just modify) correct? or am i wrong ... you might wanna get ahold of me because atleast i know the MySQL structuring of graal as a whole.
|
I wonder what IS all in for accounts in the MySQL database. Hmm... passwords = md5 encrypted?

Guild system and VIP forums are my priorities for August ! So stay tuned like will say Stefan there is some wind of change.

In response to the whole guild roster retrieval:
You can already do it, and it's pretty simple. Just find out the Guild ID (which is simple) and use fopen() with that page (e.g. http://graalonline.com/guilds/viewgu...0&view=members is for the guild Texan), read the source, and break it down to display the members. It wouldn't hurt to do it, would use less system resources, but there's no point in password protecting it. Just have it where you can do include_once('http://www.graalonline/guilds/retrieve.php?guild=GUILDNAME');. Though if you do enable the ability to use cross-site scripting on that make sure you do take proper security actions. And to PS, If he did leave the database resource link open you couldn't call call queries to that database using that resource link. Cross-site scripting doesn't work like that, all it would do is pull the HTML...But that still is a necessary step which should be taken, and could be a security risk. You say you've had months of experience...in programming, especially large languages like PHP, a few months isn't enough time to become good enough to do something like this. Considering Unixmad is running multiple servers and is using CPU usage from other things you'd want it to use bare minimum usage. You can't learn the necessary steps to do this in a few months time...I've programmed in PHP for years, and there's still stuff I don't know...so you can pretty much guess how much confidence I have in your scripting ability, especially after out "conversation" the other day. |
I am at the LinuxWorld conference and its bumping =)
