How are player servers created?

If someone wants to create their own Graal world, and have it as a player server, is that possible? How exactly are the player worlds chosen?

I'm a very new member to the community, so I don't know how a lot of stuff works. I used to work a lot with 3D Game Studio, and RPG Maker 2000, because I had this world I wanted to create. Neither could do it very well though. Graal looks like it would be perfect for it, if I would be able to do that. I'm going to include some pictures I've been working on. The first will be of the minerals that are in my world, and the second will be of some creatures I have been practicing with (I'm new to pixel art. Normally I do 3D stuff, but I think they turned out alright) .

Sweet nelly.

Well, first, you have to create the world. Make all the levels, the graphics, etc. etc. Then, submit it to one of the PWA folks. (Player World Administration) Then, three of them review it to see if it's worthy to get put up, and ba-boom.

I must say, your graphics are EXCEPTIONAL. I love the cartoony style.

Wll, you can create levels by going into training mode & pressing F4. You'll need staff members to help you, some for graphics, levels, NPCs (non-player characters), etc.
Wen you think you are ready to try and get it online, you submit it to the people who review playerworlds. If they pass you, Stefan will work his magic and create an online server so you can continue work there until you're finished.

Make sure you know what you're doing before you do it though.

zell12 10-27-2002 10:53 PM

Then when its online you get a Remote Control program. You can chat with the other staff on it; access the file browser where all the levels, graphics, .txt files, etc., are held; access the player list where you can do what you need to the players attributes that are on. You can also ban, warp, admin message, and edit their comments. You can access the NPCs(NonPlayerCharacters) which house all the scripting. There are also alot more. I am just too tired right now to explain it better.

Well, I know I won't be coding. I'm terrible at that - I've looked at some NPCs I've found on the web, and they're very complex. I can sort of take them apart and start to get their meanings, but It would take quite a while for me to learn code. I have made some worlds though - Only classic style. I haven't tried terrains yet. I guess I would have to be doing graphics and levels. I don't know if there will be enough interest in my world though.

I also have a lot of MMORPG gaming experience ;) .

Sorry, talking about other MMORPG's is not allowed. -James

eep, you need to read the rules, some people will ban you for discussing other MMORPGs =\

Nalif 10-27-2002 11:30 PM

Seriously 0_o ? That seems like a pretty.....Strict rule. Guess I'll go check the rules then.

No, they're not to be mentioned at all.

Nalif 10-27-2002 11:38 PM

Phew. Well, I just read the rules. Everything was common sense except for not mentioning other MMORPGs. Sorry for slipping up - won't happen again ;)

11. Discussion of other MMORPGs are not allowed. This includes linking to other
mmorpg sites, or mentioning another mmorpg in your signature or via any other form
of the forum.

Androk2k1 10-27-2002 11:52 PM

Yeah, I found that... so does this mean we can talk about other games that are not MMORPGs?

There are some we just don't allow.
Like Britney's Dance Studio. ;)
But other than that talk away.

you're right. :\

EliteDeath 10-28-2002 12:59 AM

The rules aren't that great but then again let's face it neither is the management of Graal Online.

Nalif 10-28-2002 01:16 AM

Strict rules or not, I would like to get this thread back on track :) .

So how should I go about this? Post a short summary of my world, and ask if anyone is interested?

You need some content first, screenshots of what is to come, to get people hyped about your playerworld and want to help out.

zell12 10-28-2002 01:38 AM

I'm already hyped from seeing his GFX, and hearing he plays RPG Maker2000. That is leet.

Well, I can edit some screenshots to make fake screens, seeing as I can't make real ones. I don't have the programing know how. I'll also post my ideas in a .txt document to get people thinking about it.

Dude, look, level making on graal is literally childs play, it's point and click. Just open up graal, click training, press f4 and you're in the editor, click on a tile on the right palette then put it on the main screen, no programming needed, press play on the level and press alt+2 to take screenshot

ZanderX 10-28-2002 02:48 AM

Well, first off, you earn my commendations for making a pretty good start on these forums and being good with graphics. You've earned my respect.

Secondly, you'll want to kind of make a writeup of what your server will be about, how it will work, etc. You'll really need to put a lot of effort into that alone just to get people interested.

You'll also need images and layouts and a map if you can. I'm sure that there will be people willing to help you (both here and in the Playerworlds and Development Forums) with scripting / level making / map generating, etc.

There's also the search feature for the forums in case you want to go back and find FAQs and such posted by other members many months ago, I'm sure you'll be able to find something. :)

Good luck, I like what you have so far, it looks like you have a lot of potential to go far here.

EliteDeath 10-28-2002 02:50 AM

I'll help, I like the look of your graphics and I have too much free time for my own good ;_;

zell12 10-28-2002 03:00 AM

wtf happened to the smilies. They don't show up (the box that shows them all) in my reply to a thread.

Here's a rough outline I typed up - it's very rought right now. These are just a few of my ideas. Let me know what you think.

Hi Nalif, and welcome to Graal :)
This concept sounds very nice, and also your graphics are great. Although you will need a lot of scripting for your project which you should also learn yourself, it will be well worth it! Your project sounds very interesting and fun :D
I suggest that you get some more show-off material and post it in the playerworlds forum, where you could probably get some people to help you.
I would help you myself, but I am currently part of so many other projects that I would not be a great help. But if you have some specific question, feel free to contact me ^^.

MysticalMatrix 10-28-2002 03:31 AM

I would suggest getting a job on a currently online playerworld (getting a job on one of the Gold servers or Graal Adventure Land or whatever its called now would greatly help) as GAT (Graphics Administrative Team) to get your feet wet and see first-hand how a playerworld is made/run. Good luck though.

I'm going to try to understand scripting, but I don't see myself as ever being a good scripter. I just can't understand it - although I get parts of it. I think I'll stick with graphics - but I will try and learn it, just so It will better my skills at being the moderator of a Graal world.

I'm going to throw together a world map tonight hopefully. I'll also throw together some fake screenies for eye candy ;) .

I think he wants to make his own tileset too silly. He is a graphics man after all.

I *would * like to create my own tileset, but I don't know enough about it yet. The only thing that I do know is that making an entire tileset for the outside/inside/whatever is very difficult using only 256 colors (all images have to be index color) .

Let me get one thing straight though - The graphics for Graal Kingdoms are not to be used for other servers, correct? It would make sense seeing as I heard Stefan paid someone else to do them for his server.

Qwert616 10-28-2002 10:54 AM

You mean like the houses, trees, etc?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure those are 2002 only.

Welcome to Graal though, and good luck on you PW.

There are ways to get around the 256 color limit. For example, you could make the basic landscapes and grass and water in the tileset, and then have things like trees and objects as seperate graphics, then you have 256 colors for grass and water and dirt alone, and all the colors you could imagine for other graphics.

the only flaw I see (if you want to call it a flaw) is the bottom of the eyes move up while the eyelids close.. don't know if you meant to do that or not, but it looks cool either way :)
