Uhm...I know this is probably a stupid question but whatever happened to Oasis Playerworld? I haven't heard anything about it for a long time. Just wonderin if it is still get worked on and stuff. If so could you Koni please post some more screens or something.

I do believe it is currently up as a private server.

I'm not posting screens anymore.. as it seems too many people want to steal my graphics (ie the dozen pw's and amateur online games that have copied the style or tiles or characters)

However, I can tell you I'm still working hard on it, and I just need to wait for Stefan to release the new exe with more gani attributes so I can get down to serious business. I've been planning and replanning my systems.

Just recently I redocumented my magic system, hp/damage system, and melee system. Once I can add the needed attributes, I will be making all the stuff that has to do with items. (dropping, carrying, using, picking up) Then I can begin work on battling, which shouldn't take me too long since I have it all written down.

After that it will be a smooth ride, and it would progress VERY fast. The only reason for the slow progress is that I have been busy with life things, and that I'm waiting for Stefan to add those darned attributes. :)

Okay, you completely misunderstood. I don't think EVERYONE is stealing my art. What do you mean I'm copying anime? My characters look NOTHING like anime art.

Let me put this into words that you can understand. My art IS distinct. I know there are people that make pixel graphics, I know there are other games, wtf are you talking about? If you think I believe ALL of those people are copying me, you're the maniac.

It's not like I'm paranoid, I'm not the only one that notices when people copy my art. If you look around the forums you will see people saying "that looks like Oasis' roof" "that looks like an Oasis character". I don't give a flying flip if someone makes graphics like mine, when they have never seen mine before.

It's completely different when the people making this art, have SEEN my art, and also play Graal. For example, a person makes a character, using the exact RGB values as mine, the same head shape/design, and the same clothing style, even brown jacket with a green undershirt. As if that weren't enough evidence, they are making a PLAYERWORLD FOR GRAAL.

I just find it odd that there have been 4-5 different people trying the same style, in the same game, with the same colors. I don't think it's the best art in the world, I NEVER said that. I just think people have been copying my art a lot. That doesn't mean my art is the greatest.

Koni, how can you work on Oasis if you are always at these forums?

i notice it too koni, i've seen some people post their "own" characters that have the coat and colors and everything, lol

I make like less than 10 posts a day on the forums... I'm not always at the forums either... Where did you even get that idea? Because I reply to posts? Dear God, we can't have that happening.

Nobody can sit and work on something all day every day. I would absolutely hate making Oasis if it turned into a chore instead of a pasttime. I NEVER understood why people start demanding that you work on something, like you're getting paid to do it and you're slacking off. I am making Oasis for fun, not because I'm getting something else out of it.

Keep making it for fun. :D

ok well yes, koni people like your work, some people may copy it exactly. but as a new pixel artist myself, i would say when you see something you like, you usually use it as tips, like my characters look SOME what like yours and somewhat like mine, and somewhat like eveyr character. all sprites cannot be different, i dont use the same color style or anything, but like mine sometmies has a jacket or shirt or whatever, and baggy pants. like you told me when you make something your try to visualize it and study it. so i did, and your art is anime, the japanese word for cartoon like art is anime. now if anyone does steal your work, and it looks exactly the same, then it wouldnt be accepted, dont you think? now if no one ever copied any part of any body dont you think they would all look deformed???? you cannot tell me you didnt copy anything on yours from something else, it looks like a graal body skinnier and taller, but changed see? everyone does sometimes...

That's the main reason I voted to shut down sanstrata. It was getting more and more like actual work, it wasn't fun.

Koni, you have to understand that you were not the first person to make art like that. Yes it is wrong that some other people take your tiles and modify them or dont even modify them. But you have people learning the skills of dithering, and thats what all your graphics are, just dithering with shadowed colors.

I can't see how square eyes and spikey hair = anime. Anime is a japanese art form, and Oasis chars don't look like japanese anime at all in my honest opinion.

I'm not truely bothered by people copying my style. What bothers me is when they deny that they have done so. Like the graphic looks near identical and they will swear up and down they have never even seen my graphics or something. That is what gets me pissed.

I'm not showing screenshots not just because I don't want people copying stuff, it's because I don't want to show everything and then have nothing be a suprise. I could care less about pleasing the public by releasing screenshots. I only showed screenshots in the beginning because I wanted people to know what Oasis was going to be like, and look like.

Having to constantly give everyone eye candy is a chore. I know showing screenshots shows actual progress, but you're just going to have to trust me when I say that Oasis is progressing. This is what happens with things like this. People get impatient and demand stuff, and then they get low quality stuff in return.

Just look at 2k2 for example. People nagged and nagged for 2k2 to be released, they released it in alpha version, and then people got mad because of bugs. If I keep showing screenshots, people are just going to pick everything apart, and it also makes me look ****y or something (obviously to some people, you know who you are) Who think just because I'm showing stuff, that I'm doing it to get attention.

So with all that said, I'm still not going to show anything. Sorry guys, but when the playerworld is done, you will appreciate not having seen everything.

evildred144: See recently I can now see where Koni comes from, Go look at this Thread This guy copied the old Tempest of Time tiles and since Godspeed has allowed Krynn to use the tiles it makes me upset. Why? Because the guy wont admit it even when i posted proof so i do have to agree with koni on this one. Since the tiles are being copied I will not be showing screenshots from krynn either.

FINALLY, people understand what I have been saying. I'm not paranoid, I'm observant. :)

I don't trust anyone except myself when it comes to the net. People that you have trusted for a year could turn around and screw you at the drop of a hat. That's just how the net is.

Just the other day, my friend over the net sent my ******ok Online through the mail, because my PC can't download it. I've knew him for about three years. I trust 'em.

There's people that know my passes and stuff, but I don't worry about it. You can find some of the nicest people on the net, but if you use the internet too much... well, you start losing your social skills. You've gotta find that equillibrium of trust in yourself, and others.

yay, i'm one of those guys that copied from a pic of koni's!
i used it to eventually get to my first version of my characters, and yes, i asked permission to use them to base mine from and was denied so i had to change them and they sucked, so i made new ones...
and some of my new ones have brown vests with green undershirts, so if i'm the guy he's referring to i just want to say that i used the predefined paint rgb's or made my own...k...
anyway, i miss oasis screens and stuff, it looks like it's gonna be great!

i'm not sure why it is i've been so mean to konidias in the past, when it's obvious he's one of the few intelligent people left in graal. and one with talent, as well.

kon, take your time with oasis. i'll be waiting eagerly to play a playerworld that is so similar to the ones i wish were available.

I just want to see ONE screenshot.

Maybe just post one, and say I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY CRITIQUE TO THIS SCREENIE or something.
