total bullshit

I think this is total bullshit what people call copyrighted materials on graal, when something is copyrighted it doesn't mean like for example, using a guild called "Jedi" isn't evading a copyright, the old zelda images were evading a copyright (tiki came on enigma saying the guilds Jedi and Sith had to be deleted because of copyright) if making a guild called Jedi is evading a copyright, wouldn't like medicine commercials be doing that by comparing to other products? My point is, that these people are getting carried away with this *cough* TIKI.. total bull

manton 05-31-2002 08:14 AM

Commercials get permission. Which Graal does not have.

Python523 05-31-2002 08:17 AM

If this arguement is more related to guilds, why is it in the playerworlds forum

Sir Kwang 05-31-2002 08:18 AM

since when was having (Jedi) after your name a copyright issue? It's not, it's total bullshit, like I said

it's not, im sick of that too "omg this should be in the wahtever forum " it's concerning how people come on playerworlds saying some small thing is a copyright issue

zell12 05-31-2002 08:21 AM

Umm, this is PLAYERWORLD Related, since it has to do with PlayerWorlds, so :p

Sir Kwang 05-31-2002 08:32 AM

I agree with you on the " this should be whereever forum". But on the Jedi thing, I don't. If anyone from LucasArts happen to hear that an online game is using names and or images that are copyrighted by their company. Lawsuit. Do you really want the game that you like to play be shut down just because of a name or image? Just simply don't do it. To openly have a guild or image using someone else's things is illegal.

having a guild name like that is just the same as having a fake tag, they couldn't care less if it's "official" on graal, it would be a copyright issue if this was a movie, it's not, so there's no problem

I agree, every popular multiplayer online game usually has guilds, and a lot of those are named after copyrighted things.

No company would ever sue a game, for a name the player is using. It's ridiculus. Then we would have to disallow anyone who uses a name from anything. That includes the ever popular DragonBall names, and Final Fantasy names, etc.

I think 'Tiki is an idiot!

and since when does that kid have control over local guilds?

ZanderX 05-31-2002 09:38 AM

I think that images and guilds are two completely separate things.

Xbob42 05-31-2002 10:29 AM

I think Stefan said he didn't want to see anymore Star War guilds.
King Arthur went on N-Pulse and massed something like that regarding all the Star Wars stuff.

Niether do you, I agree on the subject that the word 'Jedi' does is not copyrighted, I mean I doubt people can just copyright a word. It's like me copyrighting Pinktaco, I just cant do that and save it or just me.

Oh? And from what experience are you drawing this knowledge?

iniquitus 05-31-2002 11:35 AM

You can Copyright a name. Bands do it all the time (Metalica ring a bell?) Another thing you can do is register a name as a Trademark, making it illeagle for anyone else to use that name in Any situation without explicit writen permssion from the owner of the name, so yes, names, especialy "Jedi" are technicaily illeagle for Graal to use because of international copyright laws; I'm not sure weather or not we will enforce it with Guild names since the players create the guilds, not Graal Online though.

If you look on something Star Wars that is about Jedi's, you will see after the Jedi word on some toy box or something, a little TM in the circle after it. You can't have it.

You can use them I think, but you have to put in something saying that the names have nothign to do with the characters of Starwars, or related... not sure

No, you need writen permission to use them, and ONCE you have the permission they will probably ask you to put a disclaimer where you use them. :o

Commercials don't get permission. As if 'Tylenol' is letting 'Aleve' say that they're product is 10 times better then tylenol's.

AlkarenHyralt 06-01-2002 01:18 AM

Urizen has settled this. No need to keep it open.
