Just like that other mmorpg...

In another MMORPG, i don't think i can name it, you just wear your armor etc, but over your armor you can wear cash equipment, that doesn't add any stats. but still looks cool, maybe this is an idea for GK? It wouldn't affect gameplay at all, and might earn cyberjours some money.

This idea's already been tossed around, thought about (i think...), you're welcome to try and submit gfx in the appropriate thread for items you think people would buy? :P

You don't charge people to play a game AND charge for a cash shop, it's still a good idea though, making people wear bright blue armour isn't fun lol.

Soala 10-11-2009 12:36 PM

If it would do the same than in some other games (you just wear a special equip OVER your current equip and it doesn't add any stats) then yes it would work.

kia345 10-11-2009 04:02 PM

The only games I've seen with a cashshop are totally free otherwise. Micropayments. It wouldn't work because no one is that stupid, they're already paying too much as it is for too little content.

It doesn't make any sense what-so-ever to post this in a forum that is primarily used by customers. "Wouldn't it be a great idea to get money out of you! Sell you things that don't actually do anything :D" doesn't sound too appealing when it's not glossed up, or some could argue, even when it is. You'd be better off taking those kind of ideas to the people in charge, not informing the players how they could be further ripped off.

Discussing how we could make money for a business rather than how the business could make the server more fun (and probably more appealing in doing so) seems very backwards to me.

He said it all.

I think Rufus hit the nail on the head, so I really shouldn't be saying anything.. but why the hell do you care if they make money? They make barely anything off of this game, and they're still alive so they're getting their bread elsewhere clearly.

Well it all depends on you wanting to get ripped of really, would you be willing to spent more irl money then you already do on cooler looking equips? I wouldn't, but maybe other people would.

Erm... No one wants to pay anymore than their already paying to keep their subscriptions... You could have a little argument if GK and Zone, the so-called Gold servers, were bursting with content & updates. But that's not the case. And there already is a system like your suggesting, and it's a disgusting system in my opinion. Look how gelats are used on zone. You have to pay your monthly subscription to join that, and even when you do, you're faced with players who pay even more for exclusive gelat weapons, that don't even last forever. Moreover, the 'regular' (yea, you p2p, but you're still oppressed) shop is so limited in what you can buy. I was shocked to see jetpack removed and made a gelat item !pissed!

Anyway, the point is, this may work if we don't have to pay to subscribe at all. I don't deny there isn't a market for those who want to look great but don't want to work for it. But this is the last thing GK needs, what we need is a reason to re-subscribe, a recurring one. Not another blatant way to bleed players of their will to play.

Some people actually like spending money to receive perks, you guys can't really speak for everyone.

It'd work better if GK was completely free to play, and the extra's cost.

Gelats could work great. Make regular armor, clothes, hair etc, not that attractive (unless very rare). And extra fashions, like new clothes, hairstyles & even decorative armour can be payed for either for a week of use, month, 3 months and 6months. The longer payed for, the lower the overall cost and more saved - incentive.
I'll admit, i'd probably use gelats in this way if the game was free to play. It would also encourage stefan and other to actually develop, as they won't just be developed for nothing. They'll know that they'll probably see a return on their time investment. Other things like XP boosts for x days could be bought or link gelats to playerhouses and gold keys. These two would create the incentive for content development as they are closely linked to that; if people are paying 3000 gelats for 6months of 3x more exp, they will want new dungeons and quests to use them on. And more dev can go into playerhouses if people are paying for perks.

GK can succeed if managed properly. I think it's time to make it free and payment is for the perks. Zone could be successful like this aswell, the problem is that you pay to play... and then are still made to feel sub-standard.

I agree, but right now that's not an option (due to reasons beyond my decision).

That could work effectively. Especially around Holiday times when they can throw out some limited edition Christmas/Halloween or whatever style gear.
Stuff like exp boost potions of whatever would be a good idea. I bet people would buy them because it can be quite a grind to level up on GK, and people would be willing to pay a little to get some quicker leveling done.

Right, but it seems Rufus was mostly angling that staff shouldn't present marketing strategies in a customer forum - they will receive an unenthusiastic response and it's ultimately retarded.

Which is entirely true, but previous to your post, quoted above, there has been no staff activity in this thread - it was suggested by a player. So I'm not really sure what Rufus is on about. http://theugcc.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.png
