When do you think Classic will make it back into the Classic tab.
When will it return?

mid 2011 is my guess

Never, because managers nowdays want everything done in secret first instead of updates for the server while people are on it.
sure you have the desire to do the work when you first get the job, it seems exciting and all that, but after awhile the workers somehow get it in their heads that "since this is under construction, i can do my work slowly and over the years since i have better things to do sometimes" and they get fired for inactivity, and the NEXT group you hire has totally different ideas and work styles and the old work is pushed to the side, ignored or tossed out to redo it, leading to nothing ever being done. Like many of the levels, not the scripts, ganis and all of it, just the level builds, i'm sure someone just needed to do some tile fixing or rearranging here and there, but most of it was just kicked to the side and rebuilt from nothing. The only server i know that has been reset a few times STILL uses alot of the original content and STILL has a playerbase. (era) |

I don't see it being released in the foreseeable future. I am sure it'll be released but by then all the Classic players will have left.

I'll be 30 before it's released...

Well the world ends in 2012 so no point in poll options after that?
Thor and I have been basically working non-stop on Classic, and plenty of people have provided help in-between: Per, Shane, Laura, Shannon, Tyler, Rufus, and others which my terrible memory can't recall at the moment. One of the key things that swayed decide to "start afresh" was because the server was in a dismal state beforehand, in terms of scripting, community, and content. We have literally be releasing nearly every single thing we have been doing to the community; if you haven't noticed, your head must be in your ass. Here is a super-small summary... Not being to keep up with player demand was one of the major problems pre-UC. At lot of the work has been for us to do rapid development in the future when we are live; mainly with mega-flexible systems and reusable classes and other assets. We have also released a number of things that you could go ahead and use right now, such as the spar (considered the best on Graal by most who have used it), chatbox, ctf (as usual still the best on Graal), battlegrounds; each of which took an amazingly short amount of time to make because of our other work. Now we have moved into the storyline, we are nearly done with the intro, have discussed dungeons and making things more diverse, especially considering multiplayer interaction. It's true that there will always be people who aren't okay with what we are doing; but spreading misinformation and riling up the community is pretty low. Rather I'd personally like to see some more support for what we are doing! |

I've been fairly public about what is being done and what we intend to do next (some people disagree with this still but i'm stating this in comparison with both other servers and Classic pre-wipe), the current main Developers in myself + WhiteDragon + Racil have not just been working on it from day one but from years before we decided to go ahead with it, most of the levels have had small fixes and re-arrangement, the Overworld consists largely of levels from before the NPCserver but with an improved Castle and a new (while based on old) passage to a Graveyard for the sake of starter gameplay. |

Make sure those insults actually make sense before you post them. Doesn't look like people have much hope for classic though. |
hopefully mid 2011. or at least before I quit playing.

How many are aware of what has been done since? And then you have to consider that every single playerworld bar one or 2 have never been restored to the tab for a lasting period of time so there's bound to be a large amount of scepticism, that can also be used as an argument as to why it's important for the server not to be rushed back on tab, what's really important is whether the server is being remade well. And as it happens, i've already been asked straight forward by the powers that be whether i'd like Classic to go back on tab, I declined as I think it's important that the server makes the most out of the hype and interest that often coincides with the step up but fades away within 15 minutes. |
I said early 2011 though I was very tempted to say never.
The problem is, Graal is a dying game and the current Classic staff is far too small to quickly make a quality server. It won't be easy to attract more developers either, since few people likely wants to work on such a massive project on a UC server, especially if they never played on Classic back in the day. The biggest problem is trying to establish a playerbase. New players will be tough to gain because no one is likely going paying almost $50 (according to another thread,) to play a 2d game. Likewise, I don't know exactly what we can offer that the seemingly mindless drones from Era + UN (the two biggest servers,) haven't seen already. Getting them to move is a challenge in itself , as people are very resistant to change, especially when they're comfortable, and I honestly think most of our old playerbase has moved on. Even if they haven't, tis likely that they won't be playing as much as they used to. I have all the confidence in Thor, WD, and the entire Dev team to make quality levels. I simply doubt the game itself, as well as the ability of a new server to attract and keep players who seem content on their current servers (considering they're still playing it.) |

also i said mid 2010 have faith people! |
Why not just release it now? Its not like this would be the first time Classic was online for 6 month periods at a time with little to no updates other than maybe a new player house or new GC event. Think about the time right after Tyhm & Nerv left classic. I dont think anything was worked on other than the GC House for like almost 2 years. Then again the same thing happened for like 3 years after MS took over. As snickers once said "Why Wait"?

I don't know exactly what all is complete, but rest assured releasing it now would flop worse than the GC card game after a week. There's about 10 overworld levels with a total of maybe 5 buildings you can enter. There's no quests. There's two events currently, so any thoughts of keeping players around the same way we did last time won't work. There's 3 hearts and maybe one spar arena, which is in the GC waiting room which isn't readily accessible to the public. Now if a server like that sounds fun to you....well then I believe you're in the minority. It's best to not release something until it's worth playing, and right now we're not at that point. Edit: correction, thor has informed me that we have a spar arena on the overworld at Supernicks, which is in the NE of the main town. |
So what we have now, an overworld with some buildings you can enter and one spar arena, NO quests, nothing to find and no inventory at all, is much better than showing the actual progress you claim is going on?
Sometimes i just can't understand why people say such things, but maybe it is because i am not working on it. |

No need to lose your mind about what i posted, i logged in after that post and thor decided to talk to me and show me a small ammount of the progress that was done on the server (unless staff show you anything you would not know about it) and the few items i was allowed to see ARE impressive beyond words right now.:D
There is very little to interact with right now, just signs, bushes, clothes changer and sparring, but there are weapons that have been made and they look very nice and they are so much better looking than what was used during 1999-2005, thor just needs to make proper locations for them to be found, it could take a little more time, or alot, he tells me he's gotten certain systems being worked on first then he can do safe expansions of the overworld and things to actually do. I may be wrong, but could a level maker deal with creating some sections of the overworld, nothing connecting the insides of houses, caves or anything, just areas you can walk around in? similar to the bit of area that is already up, or will things need to be planned out really well first so you don't suddenly have places that are just in for filler? |
