Yeah, I saw the numbers before you edited. They were more believable, but less impressive. When you said "live with no job for about a year" you kind of implied "live with no job for about a year away from my parents". With your parents it's kind of less impressive. I mean, I made zero dollars last year aside from gifts which I didn't spend, and I made enough money to get by for a year because that's pretty easy when, you know, you don't have to pay for anything.

Anyways, yeah. You still did pretty well. It would be really impressive had it been obtained through some kind of mad skill rather than cheating.

You earned your most of your items legit the very first time. That's excluding at least the con+1 HSoD that Jagen /create'd for you, as that isn't a legitimate method of obtaining items. Then you USD'ed them off, and quit for a long time. Now, you've returned, and lied about the fate of the items you had before so you could get them restored.

I have a job that could earn me anything I could ever possibly want to USD. But does that mean I do it? No. Because it's stupid. When I ask people how much they're selling their stuff for, they give me prices of at least around $200 for a mega-cool item with +1 AC, a bonus, and neat 32x32 icons to go with them. Because I make 1.2k per month USD doesn't mean I'm gonna go blow it. I'd rather be out buying stuff like books for college, my car, paying for living expenses, getting games or comp. parts for myself or others, etc. Sorry that 'jealous' people like me use their money on better things in life rather than using mommy and daddy's credit card to USD information that can easily be wiped in no time flat.

To throw in my 2 cents, in a pure practical sense it is more rational to spend $50 on a 36 x 36 pixel icon if it results in increased entertainment that you enjoy for several days, than say $50 on expensive food and beer. At least you can sell the item and make your money back when you are done. Chris said it best.

While I understand why people buy and sell for USD (it takes me less than 2 hrs of work in life to make $50, and a WHOLE lot more grinding that is no fun at all to get it in game) I have to say I am dead set against USDing for a number of reasons.

1) It ruins competition.
If you play a game that has pvp conflicts, when you know your opponent has deep pockets, no matter how many weeks you work hard to get better items in game, they can throw anything they like at you by spending 15 minutes making a USD trade.

What is the point of even having in game competitive elements if there is a "win" button you can't beat?


2) It devastates the ingame economy. Every item that goes into USD circulation takes that item out of the game economy, pushing the value way up.
People like money.
If they can take an offer of USD vs an offer of ingame currency, and once USD is on the table as an option, you have to throw waaaay more in game currency at the seller for it to be worth his while to sell it in game instead.

I dispise the practice, and "professional" USDers especially. That said I understand why some people would choose to be parasites and why and some people would spend money on USD items.

I'd rather get beer and GK items.

I think at least one person stated such a thing since I made my previous post on this thread. You're paying for fun as busyrobot said. It's almost the same as paying for a game as I stated earlier. In fact, it might even be considered the same. It's quite simple; most people don't find fun in starting off, having to smash rocks with your feet, spending time to get a pickaxe, then crafting a weapon. Even if you're given items, you have a long way to go before you can compete with the majority of the players. That's probably what the real game is. Who RP's anyways? The kingdom of Zormite that doesn't even have a real place to stay anymore because they were eaten by a Dustari-clone army?

Brad, I don't know your numbers of what you earned, but I think I understood what you meant. You made enough money to pay off all your costs of fun an leisure for a year. While living with parents may take care of the necessities- especially at older ages, it doesn't necessarily cover the expenses of having a good time :)
