Reduce the cooldown time for changing nicks and heads.

iirc this cooldown was added a long time ago when we were running on comparatively much slower machines back in 2000-01, and people used programs or macros or whatever you want to call it, to rapidly change their head or nick to the tune of 5-10x a second, which would lag the playerlist immensely.

Its 2010 now and I hope noone is running a pentium 3 machine with 256MB of ram. I don't know about everyone else, but for me, waiting 10 seconds to set something if you accidentally misspelled something in your nick, aswell as other occassions, is absolutely irritating.

Could this cooldown be reduced to at least 5 seconds or maybe even 1 second?

Are you sure this is a feature of the client, and not just a feature of whatever server you're playing? I've never noticed a 'cooldown' on Valikorlia.

They are indeed a built-in feature... however I think they're actually controlled by the gserver, not the client.

Either way, such commands can be overwritten by scripted commands, thus making such a thing less noticeable.

How long have you been playing Graal???? yea they're built in but some servers can go over it with their own systems. <3

I know there's a nickname cooldown (though, on Val, we don't really change our nicks too often). But I've never noticed a cooldown for graphics.

But, imho, I wouldn't want to see people using macros to change their nicks/heads/whatever 5-10 times per second. If that's why we want to get rid of the cooldown, it's not a very good reason. : \

The original post never suggested such a thing.

It definitely sounds like it. "Cooldowns were implemented because we used macros that lagged the system. We have better computers now, so please get rid of/shorten the cooldowns."

Are you not reading the whole post?

How can someone use a macro to change their head 5-10 times a second if there is a 1 second, or even as high as a 5 second cool-down?

Also, there are other methods to avoid abuse: having no cool-down unless someone tries to spam something multiple times in a few seconds. For example, if you try to set your head 5 times in 5 seconds(who'd need to do that?), THEN enable a somewhat harsher cool-down(30 seconds?).

If you had read my post beyond the first sentence:

1. At that time I was an administrator on Classic, so I don't know who this "we" is, since I wasn't doing stupid **** like that. I merely gave the background information on why such cooldowns were implemented.

2. As it was stated before, I never asked for the removal of the cooldowns. In fact the title of the thread even states for the request of a simple reduction. Obviously while our computers have become more powerful in the past decade, people using a chat macro to fly through heads or nicks would be irritating. All I'm requesting is for it to be shortened to something more reasonable such as a second or two, as 10 seconds is just inconvenience really.

Try to at least read the original post before you post, because you just made yourself look like a fool.
