You should have the player elevated on a platform held by chains, and a pit of lava under them. If they hit the side, they show an unstable gani (waving their arms and shaking). If you hit them while they're like this, they fall off.

I'll supply the ganis and possibly the scripts.

That thing reminds me of the pit in the Robot Wars show....sexy robot on robot action! But seriously, although it might sound like plagarism, what if you also added some npc's that do things when players touch them, for example, you know when you're playing pinball and you hit the things that repell the ball? Yeah, that.
