This is the line i see in your example status bars:

I also see that error on the top of the home page of the graal website.

Normally people don't use it with that connotation... it's usually synonymous to "mess around".

"I'll tinker with that" -> "I'll mess around with that"

I hear it used synonymously with "fix" and "work with" more often than in any negative way.
