Why use more colors then neccessary if you can have the same result

corey used 22 colors already, alot of red tones

i used 32 here



color usage with limited gradients of colors that you need

Well, it depends on your style, I suppose, Elk. My style usually uses more colors than others such as yourself. By the way, great work there, Elk.

Keeping a low color count is usually a manner of efficiency. If you're manually picking colors, as pixel artists usually do, it's easier to work with similar colors already accessible in the piece than constantly creating a new color each time you need to color something. In the end, it's also easier to manage 8 colors in a piece when you're trying to touch-up and fix something than say, 32. That's only from a 'work ethic' point of view, that's not taking into consideration the technical reasons, even though there are rarely technical limitations anymore.
