If black/white are still treated as transparent in v6, then yes. Some image with near-black worked fine on my computer (Mac v6) but was showing as transparent for some Windows v5 users. I haven't tested it on Windows v6.

v6 apparently even renders black and whites on tilesets, including pics1, transparent. I noticed on UN that things like the black rock were shading the blacks with the grass instead of the actual colors.

pics1.png has a transparent color and is actually rendered correctly now. (We) might need to update it.

About special transparency: When a palettized image is using transparency then all palette entries which use an identical color will also be made transparent. The reason for that is that in <=v5 on Windows it was using color-key transparency. Hundreds of heads and body graphics are using this transparency which makes it necessary to support it. There is however no black or white transparency, and no special transparency for 24 or 32 bit pngs.
