Offline editor

I know people have been asking for improvements to the offline editor for a while now, but is it easy to add support for 24-bit pngs? If so, please do .

I think the problem there is that you can't set transparency on 24-bit pngs.

24-bit PNGs can't have transparency. You're probably thinking of 32-bit PNGs.

24-bit PNGs do support transparency. Whether the Graal client supports transparency in 24-bit PNGs is another question.

I use 24-bit pngs for my tilesets on Graal5 (16 million colors). It would be a nice thing if I (and others) can use the same tileset while doing offline editing, instead of having to use a dithered 8 bit version.

Exactly. Kinda silly to make it so you're able to use them online, but not offline, when it should be a rather simple thing to change.

Why not just limit your tileset to 256 colors? Thats enough anyways. Its only that one image. Older games were limited to a total of 256 colors.

How? 24-bit PNGs use 8 bits for red, 8 bits for green and 8 bits for blue. If you want to get transparency you have to add an 8-bit alpha channel (which makes your PNG 32-bit). If there's some other way I've never heard of it

You can use tileset transparency on 24 bit pngs. I've done it already and shown the forum community screen shots of such many times.

I've used it too, it's very much possible.

What Googi said sounds logical, how would you have alpha without the 8-bit alpha channel?

I asked how it was technically possible, not how to make one.

True, probably. Well, who cares. Isnt Graal supporting 32-bit png anyways?
Why have a discussion whats possible and what not, thats not even the topic.

Whether it's 24-bit PNGs or 32-bit PNGs, I'm sure you are all smart enough to understand what I said as I'm not the most knowledgeable, graphically. My point pretty much still stands that it is very much possible.
